Haha I am with you. We need a refresh badly. I feel like we have had the same middling team for 5+ years now.
There are very few untouchables right now imho.

    I think on D you keep: Hanifin(24), Anderson(24), Valimaki 22)
Forward you keep: Lindholm(26) Dube(22) Mang(24) As a side note, you keep Chucky as long as he can get his S together, if not, get rid of him.

Everyone else I would be happy to see land at a new team.

You also have a decent crop of young kids coming up that I am excited to see: Gawdin, Pelletier, Zary, Ruzicka, Mackey etc that I think will be deserving of a spot soon.
If we could somehow get a tier 1 player for anyone not named above I would be perfectly happy.
I wonder if we can get Eichel for Johnny/Mony haha
I think that's a good assessment, no disagreement here.

I would also just love for us to have at least one tier 1 star player to get excited about. The last players we had like that IMHO were Iggy for a few years in his prime and Kipper. Gio has been good and had one great year, but at ~38 it's probably time to make room for some new talent. Too bad we got rid of Hamilton

Eichel would be a breath of fresh air if we could somehow pull off that trade and we'd finally have a good Center to replace Monahan.

    We didn't lose!

I heard today that Monahan is one of 7 flames all time to score 200 goals. Averaging almost 30 goals a season. I'm probably not ready to give up on him

He's had an incredible career, and that's despite several small but impactful injuries on the back half of some seasons. Honestly he looks hurt again. He is a very good player. But....

This team needs a top line, new top players, and those are incredibly difficult get. We will likely need to deal our "best" players to get that.

I think all of the top teams are working off of drafted talent

I agree. The game has changed so much and these young players can come in and start making impacts a year or two in.

Hopefully any trades we make don't involve sending pics away.

Yes. Bring in picks, don't deal them away to prop up this core. Let's win the cup in the next building.

I am perfectly fine with trading away everyone, tanking, and then getting Connor Bedard 1st overall in the 2023 draft

Probably a fair price but third rounders are usually pretty worthless aren't they? Guess he was gone at the end of the year anyway.

Yeah, a 3rd rounder isn't worth much these days. Mostly its a move to get rid of a guy and at least have an asset instead of letting them go for nothing. It also clears some cap space which is always nice to have.

I get it, and I support the strategy. Always sad to trade away someone when the return looks about the same as a bag of pucks, but makes sense. Be nice to trade away some bigger names for bigger returns. Someone out there want to make 2 playoff runs with Gio maybe?

I'll miss playoff Bennett, but not regular season Bennett.

This X100. I remember the first time I saw him play for the Flames in the playoffs as an 18 year old thinking to myself "Man, we have a player in this kid!!"
It's too bad he cant play like that year round.
I think Florida is the ideal spot for a guy like that. Lots of good players along with coach Q. I think he could do really well down there

Crazy to think the pick right before him was Leon Draisaitl. Benny was the top rated player going into the draft as well, dropped from 1st overall to 4th

Who would have known #of pullups completed would directly translate into effectiveness as an NHL player!
