Just curious, was eyeballing one of the NAS/Plex commercial offerings. Feed the tv and local backups/shared drive system.

Kinda leaning towards an itx sized build to live in the tv stand... Any thoughts on how to spec it out?

Been back and forthing between the options, still no idea what to do. I know I could probably just use an old PC but - eyeballing doing something right I can ignore for a long time lol

What do you want out of your plex setup? Stream to 1 or 2 TVs for your household or share it with family and friends? Spec'ing one for personal use versus running 5-10 streams varies quite a bit.

Just personal in-house 1 tv maybe 2nd on occasion use... But want something I can rely on for at least a few years; which is pushing me away from the WD my cloud etc.

Then a synology DS220+ or 920+ would be a nice fit depending how many drives you need. Handles plex fairly well.

i was half thinking of going this way... Reduce the risk of "no longer supported"; even if it runs a few $ more at the end of the day.

NR200 case is on sale, looking to nab one to swap to a mini-itx setup but AM4 motherboards seem to be crazy expensive. Anyone got any suggestions for a mini-itx board for a 5800x that won't break the bank? Hard to justify 250$ for a new board.

Budget is flexible. Want something to match the card for sure. I was originally thing a 5600x but the 5800x is a pretty good deal right now

This is certainly a mid-high tier build, but appropriate to the card's level. I made an assumption about which 3080 you have.

Could also go up to the 360mm cooler if you wanted, or potentially go down to the Phantek P400A/P360A case. I have the Lian Li EVO case but it doesn't come with fans so that's an added cost.

There are a few things you could change up but the motherboard and RAM type are what you want for AMD. I personally feel the X570 boards are worth it over the B-series.

With 4080 dropping soon might be worth it to wait. I just picked up a 3090 asus strix OC with 1.5 year left on warranty at mem x for 1k 2 weeks ago. People are panic selling so expect prices to dump even more

Nvidia is manipulating the market. All the hardware channels have reported they have massive inventory but are not releasing it to keep prices high while the 4000 series launches.

AMD seems to be in much shorter supply of its cards, haven't seen the same deals that occured end of August/beginning of September again on those.

to what end though? it's not like keeping the cards until the 40 series launch will make them, or the 40 series more valuable.
