This weekend got a deal on a 3060 for 600 bucks with a memex receipt for 640 from July 2nd. Guys car got hailed on and needs a windshield so was selling it. So I guess Im building a PC now.


Been 9 years since my last build and a lot of the new hardware is badass and makes for a cleaner build, like M2 hard drives and wifi modules.

My last PC was a 9 year old build I upgraded from a 680 to a 1060 for a cost of 100 bucks 2 years ago:

16gb DDR3
1060 6gb

Should be good for another decade now!

Where is the spot to get a copy of windows 10. Im guessing with no optical drive I would need a USB version.

This is the windows 10 media tool, you can make a bootable flash drive with it. Then you just need to acquire a license key itself. Not sure where is cheapest.

Ebay or Reddit(r/microsoftsoftwareswap) for cheap, somewhat dubious keys. FWIW I've had two keys from Reddit and they've both worked flawlessly.
If you know someone in an IT education program then I think they might have access to free or cheap keys through their portal.

g2a.com has always been helpful. I've bought multiple keys from there and they always work.

Ok this has been driving me nuts since I built it, but I finally have some time to mess with it now. That m2 intel wifi module I put on the motherboard is not being recognized at all. Doesn't show up in device manager and in the MSI bios there's no option to enable/disable the slot. So I'm at a loss. I've been using a usb wifi adapter for now but I'd like to use the onboard capability that this board allegedly has. Google search didn't turn up a thing. Only problems with drivers for people who can actually see the device in device manager. I am using this board and wifi adapter:

did you install the adapter on M2_2 or M2_1?

edit: nvm looks like its a 2230 slot so it would only fit there anyways

Yeah it's in the right slot, and I flashed the latest bios. Made a thread on the MSI forum and someone says the 9560 is incompatible and to get an AX201 instead.

Hilariously, still waiting on a display port cable so I can hook it to my monitor. Hooked it up to the TV and there's a couple kinks to get sorted out like the power button on the case, recognizing the proper ram frequency and maybe changing location of fan headers but otherwise pretty painless except managing the cables!

I got a 3080 today from the best buy drop. wife had to wait in line from 6 am she was 30 in line. The first guy in line arrived at 10 pm the previous night
