Am I the only one who likes a completely dark PC case? If I am gaming or working (especially if I have the lights in the room off) I find it very distracting to have colored lights flashing at me from the side. Do you guys just always have bright room lights on to drown it out or does it not bother you? They look super cool though.

Nope I personally don't like RGB, just a personal preference. My case sits on the ground off my desk so I don't care if it's emitting a rainbow, went solid wall with my case.

On a separate note, I miraculously was able to call Memex today to check up on my preorder since I have been waiting almost 3 months now due to their error. The guy was super rude and refused to even tell me my place in line so I still have no idea

I had the same experience at MemEx. B&H is much better. On two separate calls, a week apart, they told me my approximate place in line and how many units they have scheduled coming in.

I wish I had pre-ordered with B&H - it would have been even cheaper too thanks to the exchange rate. I have bought a ton of stuff from them over the years and they are fantastic. I still F5 their website about 100 times a day but it's probably futile haha.

Assuming it ever comes in at Memex, that will probably be the last thing I ever buy from them if I don't find one elsewhere first. So many other retailers with better prices, service, and selection provided you're willing to shop online. I managed to buy every single other part elsewhere, should have just done everything.

That's just how windows works, the more available the more it leaves in there to speed things up. You could have 256gb of ram and windows would find a way to use 150gb of it

RAM is volatile memory, so every time your computer shuts down and the RAM loses power it loses everything in it. So whenever windows spins up a program it loads it into the ram and just keeps it all there, as the ram becomes fuller it dumps the oldest/least used things. More memory = more hoarding of programs. If you have 64/128gb of memory it might just keep everything in there, in some cases this helps like loading large files or games but in some cases it makes pretty small difference because SSDs can just pull data so fast nowadays. 2-3gb/s from a nvme ssd can pull a massive file in almost instantly anyways.

For example chrome is a pig because it caches every page/image you've been to recently. That's why you can hit Ctrl+Shift+T and instantly be on the page you just closed.

Currently I have 32GB of RAM and the only thing I can do that comes close to maxing it is loading hundreds of 45 MB RAW images into Photoshop or a big video edit.

Just putzing around in Windows I can't even come close to that. As a test right now I have 32 chrome tabs open, Firefox with 3 tabs, Word, Excel (8 big spreadsheets), Outlook, COD:Warzone running in the background, Plex server running, and a ton of other small processes (Steam, Creative cloud, etc.) and I am using 14GB.

Edit: I also haven't restarted my PC in probably a month.

Went to MemX NE this morning, probably had like 40 RTX 3070 just sitting on the shelf. The salesbro told me they are not updating the online quantities in an effort to fight the scalpers and giving priority to customers that come in the store.

Yeah the 3070's seem to be the easiest to get at the moment. A friend of mine and his wife picked up 2 last week and another friend snagged a 3080. All Gigabyte, so they probably got a huge shipement.

Funny, they won't post stock online, they sometimes don't take phone calls, and when they do take phone calls they won't give you stock updates. Expecting people to drive down there just to check stock is pretty shitty IMO, especially during a pandemic. Every other place I have called has been able to tell me stock (or lack of), the amount on order, my place in line, the number of orders they have, etc.

I've got 12.5k photos being batch processed, three alts shit-posting in two MEGA threads (that one alt takes up 3gb by itself), a few excel sheets, 20-30 tabs of chrome, two videos playing (one on mute), Assassin's Creed, file backups, stonks, and whatever malware I have in the background.
