Memory Express dropped gpu prices today if anyone is looking. They are final sale though. 3060ti at $710 seems pretty good.

Oh don't say that... Now I want to look. And they have 12100's in stock and I've realized there's another build for the kiddo in the near future.

Anyone want a EVGA FTW 3060ti at cost ($745) before I return it? Memory Express opened it to install it but I ended up getting 3070ti instead. I'll have it back tomorrow or Tuesday once I get my build.

Default Critique My Budget Po' Folk PC Build

    https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/vHq8H2

Open to suggestions. But used equipment goes for as much or more than this. I'd be adding something like a gtx1060 or rx580 to it. Just want a dirt cheap computer I can move around easily vs my main rig at home, only games I'd play are non-competitive multiplayer (Pulsar Lost Colony and MechWarrior5 are my current gotos, along with GTFO). 1080p gaming is good enough for this unit.

    PCPartPicker Part List: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/vHq8H2

    CPU: Intel Core i3-10105F 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor ($95.02 @ Vuugo)
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS10X Performa CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte B560M DS3H AC Micro ATX LGA1200 Motherboard ($59.99 @ Memory Express)
    Memory: G.Skill Aegis 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL16 Memory ($73.58 @ Amazon Canada)
    Storage: TEAMGROUP MS30 512 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($53.07 @ Vuugo)
Case: Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($64.50 @ Vuugo)
Power Supply: Cooler Master MasterWatt 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply ($41.99 @ Amazon Canada)
    Total: $388.15

This build is perfect. You should buy my 1080ti instead of a 1060/1660

    Go on...

I'm still running an old 780 & have been in the market for an inexpensive replacement to tide me over until these GPU prices get back to normal...

3060's are down to 480$ at memex...

I vote for 12100 processor but - yeah it'll run you another 100$ at the moment, they were selling for 130 not so long ago.

I have a spare 1070 sitting on a shelf if anyone wants to buy it for cheap. Open to reasonable offer.

Also a few spare media hard drives. I believe a pair of 4tb WD reds

Scored a strix 1070 yesterday. How much you want for the 1080ti? It'll be faster than my main rigs vega56 lol.

    I don't even know what it's worth! I know they're faster than a 3060?

    It's an EVGA 1080TI FTW3 - $420.69?

Sweet build! The P500A supports a large CPU cooler up top. For an extra $20 I'd opt for the 360mm cooler instead.

Is MemEx still pricing matching, during product shortages and whatnot?

Thats a $20 off rebate. I think shortages are way down, MemEx in Edmonton has stacks of GPUs on their shelves now when before they put mobos up to make it look like they had something

Sorry, I thought he was commentating on how cheap the mobo was.

I now understand that he was asking if MemEx would price match that list. I'll certainly try that next week when I'm back in Deadmonton.

What are you trying to accomplish with this build? It just seems really expensive, unless you simply want the best of the best, I'd lower some specs.

If its for gaming, the cpu and gpu are quite mismatched. I'd halve the cost of the cpu and add that money towards a better gpu, but that's just me.

I don't game very often. I wanted more cores for VMs/Plex transcoding. Everyday processing is more important than gaming for me. 5950X for $700 was too good to pass up anyways. MOARRRRR cores!!!!

If you have a plex pass, you can use the GPU for transcoding. I have an unRAID server that splits my GPU between tdarr for h.265 conversion, plex, for on the fly transcoding, and t-rex, for when the card is idle.
That being said, moar cores is always the answer for a homelab-esque PC. I haven't looked at the build, because apparently the site blocks you if you have a VPN enabled.

Edit: Just took a look. I don't think they're that mismatched. I'd rather go balls out on a CPU on an initial build, because I hate swapping them out down the line, so I'd rather it last a lot longer, whereas a GPU is easy to replace every gen (if that's what you want).
A 3060 is a decent mid-range GPU. Build looks overall decent to me.
Having an AORUS Gigabyte board, I much prefer the MSI bios functionality, but that's a preference thing.
Also, 1000w is huge overkill. I think I have an 850w driving a Ryzen 7 + 3080 + several SSD/HDD/NVME, and have no power issues whatsoever. Keep in mind efficiency is in the 80% range, so if you go with a bigger PSU and you're not using it to that potential, you're using more power than you need.

Make sure that your intended usage actually can utilize more cores. 3060 is a really good card and great value.

Where can you get a 5950 for $700 though?!
