I keep looking for an excuse to jump to a 13700KF... But I can't find one that'll justify the expense of motherboard, DDR5 and new CPU.

Intel fanboy will show here - but the ARC 770 is sweet in valorant But today's 4091 didn't help fortnite - that got choppy again.

    7950X3D with a 7900XTX for me I'm thinking for a new build.
AMD fixed their overheating issue yet?
The 7950X3d with 7900XTX is plan as well. But the overheating issue is making me reconsider.

I built a 13900k/4090 just before xmas, and for the 2nd gaming PC we have I'm going to build a 7950x3d too. Not sure on the GPU, probably another 4090, but I might try the 7900xtx. Probably go with a custom h20 cooling system to manage the infamous AMD heat.

It is specific to the newer 7900XTX.

Thanks! Crazy that AMD would come out officially saying that 110C at the Tjunction is within spec. Maybe that's how quickly things have advanced since last gen.

But when mining, I know lots online would say that was the Tmax before degradation was ~95C being more 'within spec'. And if anyone knew about pushing the limits of cards before degrading them (or too dumb to know they're degradaing them), it was Eth miners LOL

4090 also had issues and was melting power connectors. Seems both companies tried pushing too far for their top cards.

Mining is different though because that load is 24/7. Whereas your card hitting higher temps for a few hours of gaming isn't the same kind of wear and tear on it.

I believe that is still an on-going issue. Hopefully they will resolve it by 4090Ti.

A lot of the issues with the 4090s have been that they put the port to plug in the power in a stupid location, and if you don't have a new Atx3.0 PSU you have to use their adaptor, and bend the shit out of the cables to plug it in. The majority of the issues of the plugs melting were people not getting the plug firmly seated all the way in.

What are the go-to places for ordering parts online nowadays?

I noticed Memex was selling OEM Ryzen 7 5800Xs for a pretty good price, but are sold out except in Ontario and Saskatchewan. I checked Newegg and I noticed a lot of stuff sold on there are from sellers from China. Not sure how much I trust that, or want to deal with it if I have to do returns.

Newegg has had a lot of negativity around it lately. Some people bought products that were clearly previously used and damaged and then had their returns denied for said damage. Would do everything I can to avoid using them.

You could check Canadacomputers as another source.

If possible there's the 5800x3d which is amd's news stacked 3d cache. Probably worth it if its not much of a price difference.

Aside from the GamerNexus fiasco, is Newegg really that bad?

Like when they bundled the known bad exploding gigabyte power supplies with in demand 3080(was it 80's or 90s?)? But if you returned the blown up power supply without the gpu - you had to return the gpu too or no refund...

    That was kinda GN too.

There's some older ones on the wiki

    I don't game, so that's a $150-200 price difference for something I wouldn't see a benefit from.

I think this is even cheaper than MemEx and if anythings wrong with it can simply go to the store.

    Edit: oops BB sold out.

    But here same price: https://www.canadacomputers.com/prod...7n4r7qb0i4a5e0

Yeah but the OEM was $50 cheaper at MemEx before it sold out. Hard to justify getting the retail version when the only difference is the stupid box.

I got fucked by Newegg twice last year myself - no longer, I will not order from them any longer. Their customer service is horrible too. I got a motherboard that was supposed to be nib and had been opened, and had bent pins, and they refused to do anything about it. Then they sent me a 27" monitor without putting it in a secondary shipping box and it had 6 pixels out, and same story. Plus it had been retaped shut as well(ie NOT new, plus the protective screen film and been removed and the cables all obviously un-twist tied), I took video and pics of it when it was delivered in order to prove that, yet they still told me to PFO. I'd never once complained in the past and had ordered $15k in products from them.

I recently ordered a couple things from Canada Computers and it went OK. Picked up an LG 27" 4k 160hz monitor on sale for $850 from msrp of $1200 and it was perfect. Their website banner and company logo looks like a 10 year old made it though.

MemExpress is still the best way to go IMO, so long as they have what you want in stock. You CAN order mail order/online from other stores than the online store, you just have to call them, and many of them want paypal payment and won't accept credit cards from some reason (Saskatoon and Winnipeg as examples). I've been dealing with Minh since he had the one store in Calgary, and then the one near the Taj Mahal restaurant on McLoed trail. They've never done me wrong, always been decent on the few returns I've had over the years too.

IMO it's down to just CanCamps and MemEx, or Amazon, but I dislike using Amazon compared to a dedicated PC store. If every NewEgg store burned to the ground, I'd throw a party.

I'm keeping an eye out for either a 5800x3d or a 5900x, personally. But I appear to have missed the lower prices on them.

Appreciate the Newegg feedback. Man that's disappointing given their selection but sounds like it's not worth the 'what if'
