Winters.
Most people are aware that winters are the way to go but they bitch and whine about storage space, upkeep cost $ of switching/storage, or make excuses on how they drive doesn't warrant it.
Don't be one of those and just do it right the first go.
Besides, now you can be one of those who looks down on those idiots who white knuckle out the snowstorms we may get a couple weeks a year.
OP said "4wd truck" so the WS is unlikely. DMV2 is more likely in BlizzaksThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Winters for sure. I've been buying cheaper winter tires and studding them to great success for me.
The tahoe I bought for this winter came with hakk 7s non studded, so I'll see how those are this year.
You are right again dear penis. DMV2 is the one with the taller sidewalls, right? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Winters - I swap out my K02's and run Toyo Observe GSi-5s on some cheap 17" Ultra Gauntlet wheels for my F150. I've been happy with them. Walnut tires....
yes yes you are right. DMV2 is EXCELLENT!! had it on the GLKThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I’ve been very happy with the winter performance on my duratracs last season.
If I felt that winter tires would improve my drive I would buy them, but currently they have left me wanting for nothing (and I’m a tire snob).
However I don’t believe that the stock M+S AT’s most vehicles come with are equivalent to what I am using (the garbage that came with my jeep sure weren’t) so my generic advice, despite what I do, would be to get winters.

Factory AT M+S tires on most trucks are AWFUL, because they are chosen for low cost and high fuel economy. Premium AT M+S tires (like the duratrac) are 10x better. Then true winters are better still, but harder to say how much. But then some trucks come with "pretty good in winter" AT tires.
Had a long chat with Bob about this for my own use, and I'm still on the fence. The factory tires I have are actually one of the better 4-season AT tires you can buy for performance in wet snow.

100% agree. Had some duratrac's on my old F-150 and they were pretty awesome in the deep, wet snow out East. Not excellent on ice but not terrible. The stock M+S's were not much better than any A/S imo. I'd still recommend Winter's for Alberta conditions...the packed down snow is ridiculously slippery. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Also just bought some Conti TS830P Winter's... 35 series too.
Livin on the edge.

to me snowflake rated tires on a 4x4/AWD vehicle can allot for reasonable performance and especially offroad winter performance. I would say that a snowflake rated AT tire is minimal what I would run on a half ton or 1/4 ton truck due to the unweighted solid axle.
For onroad performance - I am an advocate for winter tires, and if I spend more time in Winter on highways going to Ski hills, than I do driving on fireroads to backcountry ski/sled areas... I'd throw my cash on "good" winters. Even bad winters are better than no winters, or even most A/Ts.
That said, once I went to studded Nokian Hakka 8s on my car and lt3 on my truck - there is no looking back.
You know these tires are good when you don't even realize you are driving through inclement conditions.
Yep I totally agree with you. I've run blizzaks on all my cars, just amazing. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Winters it shall be. Thanks for the opinions everyone, very much appreciated; just needed that kick in the right direction.
