i am trying Venom Power's this year. 4 season rated, $1250 installed for 22"
(285/45R22)
so far they're great , ice is ice and better than stock, but not amazing
I think slicks give more ground contact.

These are the best winter tires but they don't make them in a 50 series sidewall.

Not true winters of course, but just ordered up a new set of Duratracs from Bob. After 90,000+km it's time for another set.
Good enough traction for how much I drive in the winter and having two sets of tires is pointless for how many km the truck will get going forward
See Crank. See Crank Walk. Walk Crank Walk.
Stopping at the end of my road with my winters on was outstanding this morning
I’m waiting as long as possible to put my new Duratracs on, gotta get as much life out of these disappointing Grabber A/TX as possible.
New duratracs should do fine on everything but sheer ice. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
In general I find most new all-season tires do fine for their first winter. It's when they start losing tread that they get scary. OTOH the old Hankooks on my Fiesta did amazingly well last winter - no slipping, no sliding, braking was great, 3/32 tread depth. Like WTF.
Can someone test these haha
My ZR2 also has Duratracs on it I believe and so far it has been good. Though it hasn't snowed much in Edmonton either yet. But I am thinking with 4X4 and careful driving that everyone must do regardless of what tires they have, I should be okay.
I went with these on my truck this winter. Maxxis Presa SUV SS-01, 275/55R20. It's my first year with real winter tires and I was driving around yesterday like an absolute dickhead with no problems.

I'm wondering what tirebob thinks of this brand but I can attest that they are AMAZING for this price. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Last winter, I bought an X1 that came with a set of Maxxis Artiktrekker with about 60% tread left, didn't think much of it as I didn't plan to drive the car through any really bad weather (just city driving)...however, I ended up selling it as I wanted to finally get some good winter tires for my 370Z instead.
Long story short, I decided to cheap out since I had the option of working from home all last winter if the roads were bad...so I decided to buy a brand new set of Maxxis Artiktrekker after finding out that they aren't even from China (I just assumed at the entry level price point, it's garbage from China), they're from Taiwan, and they are one of the cheapest you can buy. The first day after I put them on my 370Z, I drove to work the next day from Airdrie to downtown on a snow/ice covered Deerfoot, combined LSD and traction control and a near 50/50 weight distribution on my Z, I couldn't even swing out my back end if I tried, they are awesome winter tires!!
I have no issues with the Maxxis line of tires for their price point at all. Again, like anything it comes down to is how decent are they for the money they cost, and they are better than most super entry level stuff for sure. I consider them to be more of a mid level performer at between entry level and mid level price points. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
My ZR2 stock tires I believe are Duratracs and though they are brand new, I find them pretty good in winter so far. No real problem with them even in deep snow. Of course occasional minor slips and slides that I feel even winter tires would do. Of course have the truck in 4 high at all times lately as the roads are covered.
Update.. I ended up swapping tires out.. I decided to get cooper AT3 XLT. I phoned around a few tire shops in kamloops and they all seemed to recommend these tires or the duratracs. Both shops said that the coopers performed better or similar to the duratracs so seemed like they are worth a try. I got these for 930$ in a 275/70/18 size, e rated and then there is a 70$ mail in rebate. Seemed like a great price and tires so far are really quiet and snow and ice traction is much better then the Michelin’s I had before. I’ve had KO2s before in the winter so I’m interested to see how these perform versus the KO2.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Doesn't the zr2 have auto 4wd? easier on the drivetrain for on pavement activities. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
4H at all times is generally a poor idea. It’s not all wheel drive.

Not that I would know. I've just heard about it from my rich friends.
