Default Well I'm a moron! Plugged PCI-E power into CPU power

Built many of PC's before, and just happened to make the most bone headed move ever. I'll blame it on building tonight dead tired.

I plugged PCI-E power into CPU power... I have no idea how I even got the cable in as they are keyed differently, but somehow I did. Fucking rookie shit.

PSU clicked (Gigabyte GP-P750GM) but nothing powered. Didn't even get a fan or anything to light up. Trouble shooted for a bit, a couple more attempted start ups to the same thing. Then fucking lost it when I figured out what I did. Fixed it, booted fine, installed windows. Everything is working fine, no hang ups.

Any chance I caused any damage that I might not notice right now?

    No way to really tell...

Things to keep an eye out for:
    1) Check the capacitors on the mobo, look for any that may have blown.
    2) Keep an eye on stability (BSODs, etc.)
    3) I don't know if this is relevant, but run a memtest. This will create a decent load and make sure memory modules weren't fried
    4) Check to make sure the Mobo is keeping BIOS time after power is disconnected for 5 minutes.

Be happy it booted, we all make mistakes every once in a while!

You likely dead shorted and the PSU saved you with it's short circuit protection... Otherwise yeah you plugged power into the ground plane which isn't great but if it started up you're likely Ok.

With the short protections on board and PSUs (esp if you have a good one), its likely no harm was done. You can try something like heavy load to see if running everything at 100% is stable.

99% this. I'd stop worrying about it and count yourself lucky.

Very lucky indeed! As soon as I realized my mistake I thought I was done for.

Thanks you all for the reassurance!

If you have a modern PSU you should be fine. Just do a few tests when you get everything back up and running.
