Obviously nobody in here is outright saying violence is justified, but if you scroll back and read the thread, there are quite a few posts essentially saying "they had it coming" or implying it was a fair retaliation which IMO isn't that far off.

FWIW on this issue, i agree with most here that it's ultimately the government's fault for having two sets of rules. Although the actions of the few bad apples on both sides (ramming boats/burning down buildings and cars, and shooting slingshots of BBs) is pretty disgusting.

The "they had it coming" sentiment has to do with exactly what you're saying. The government having 2 sets of rules, and really rules is an exaggeration. The rules are more vague than F1 regulations, which Canada was supposed to have clarified in the 90's, and here we are 30 years later.

Your spot on. It's popular to bash first nations at every chance around here. The stances from many users on topics like theft, destruction of property, self defense change the second it involves first nations.

Most here do think first nations had it coming or deserved the retaliation.
