    Default Alberta Education Curriculum Proposals

    That's Adriana...

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmon...sals-1.5766570

Education experts slam leaked Alberta curriculum proposals

They also say first graders should learn Bible verses about creation as poetry and fourth graders should learn that most non-white Albertans are Christians.

Colin Aitchison, press secretary to Education Minister Adriana LaGrange, said the documents only represent advice to the minister, and are not final. He also said curriculum writers are not obliged to include the advisers' recommendations.

He said the proposals will go before hundreds of teachers and experts who serve on curriculum working groups for feedback later this fall before the minister signs off on the curriculum.

Is the government just seriously trying to piss off everyone all at once? I mean really, they're onto stupid shit now.

However, adjusting the week of residential schools discussion away from gr1-4 is probably a good thing.

I mean it led to some great discussions with a friend who's a survivor of residential schools... But even her comment was his biggest takeaway in grade 3 was teachers at residential schools are called nuns.

Age appropriate instruction is good too.

It's weird how removing something from the curriculum is seen as political, when addition of that item previously was not.

If the topic is political, it's political both ways. And guess what, ALL social topics are political.

The education system has been jamming progressive nonsense down kids throats for years (decades!).

We need to unwind that somehow, and the process will be messy.

Leftists like to think their views are apolitical. When you redefine whatever your views are as centrist, it’s easy to declare that anyone who deviates from you is an extremist (hence the alt-right branding nonsense people have been throwing everywhere these days)

Why teach history? Teach the future! Teach *checks notes* bible verses!

Erasing history surely can't help anybody understand the past, either.

My wife was telling me if this passed we should put the kids into private school, pretty sure they teach the exact same curriculum just need to pay $20K per year.

If I had to pick between moving when we teach about residential schools and having guest lectures from extinction rebellion I know what I'd choose.

You asked what year I prefer to dial it back. I don't agree with the premise of your question. We can make the education system better moving forward, no need to adopt the views of the past. But much of the current progressive indoctrination in our school system is pure ideology. You didn't ask about teaching history - although I suspect progressives are as revisionist as anyone.

And you understand that this curriculum change isn't doing that right? It's specifically adopting the views of the past. Which is why I asked what year we should regress to in order to cancel out these progressive moves that happened during 50 years of conservative rule (that was preceded by 50 years of even more conservative rule). It's a 'dial it back' curriculum change. Not a moving forward one.

I know I didn't ask, which is why I was perplexed when you said you'd rather understand the past which is why I asked how the curriculum change helps us understand the past? I'm intrigued, Steelman.
