That will obviously vary greatly depending on where your kids plan on going to school and if you plan on covering all living expenses as well...

Personally I am aiming for ~$15,000/ year of education
I think my tuition + books was around 12K a year. Add another 2K for a laptop, 1K for a decent tablet (which you need, as notebooks are not a thing anymore) in addition to misc costs at around 500$ a year (printing, notebooks, backpacks, making reports and posters, software subs, event fees & transport). I'd say a base cost of a degree is about 50 to 60K

Then add in accommodations, food, transport, and an allowance for recreation as needed.

    Finally, adjust for inflation

And what’s comical about those numbers is the degree to which it’s directly and indirectly government subsidized.

    Comical.

Universities like DeVry are a lot of more. I think the actual base cost of a degree without government subsidies is probably closer to 20K a year.

International students aren’t subsidized. U of A for electrical engineering is 45k plus 3k in non academic fees per year. 195k give or take for four years.

I think for international students that is not just unsubsidized, but also inflated

Yea they aren’t subsidized. Except for the entire place runs on government grants. In cities with subsidized transit, medical care, utilities, and every other service.

There wouldn’t be 4 walls to host a lecture at a Canadian university without government subsidies.

End of the day I have no doubt students absorb way more from the taxpayer than most of them put in for decades. If ever tipping the scales.

UofC has a costs estimator beyond just Tuition. Without room and board, they figure about $11k/yr for Science, and $13k/yr for engineering. so $44-52 per year, means they are counting on VERY low inflation.

I call BS. It doubles without fail every decade or so since the 60s. If it's $7K/yr for useless degree right now, it'll be $14K in 2034 and close to $20K by 2040.

Killy called it, that's $74K figure is light.

Speaking of RESP what funds you guys are putting the Money on?
Daughters RESP is in TD Dividend Growth and TD Science and Tech.
TD is no longer offering TD Science and Tech. Couple of weeks ago I got an email from them stating that this is a High Risk fund and asking me to review the investment strat.
I found the timing of that email to be little questionable because all this time all the tech stock was down and i never received an email from them now the tech stocks are bouncing back and I get this email.

I don't give investment advice, but regarding RESP, invest enough to get all the grants, in any year you qualify for them.

Moved most of the RESP into CBIL this week as first child goes to university in Sept.

Rutherford is a lock and she's qualified for the President's Scholarship at both U of A and U of C, depending on how she does in English 30. That's basically full freight on tuition.

    What story is that?

A 2% fee for a dividend fund is highway robbery, you would probably be better off with cash interest.
