are you confident the government won't increase taxes at the time of your retirement?
are you confident your investments aren't going to be in the recession phase at the time of your retirement?
bracket creep, inflation pushing income as years go by, which can cause higher income, but not high purchasing power, which can cause your tax bracket to go higher, meaning more tax money for government.
our debt is what, in the trillion? only way to "fight" it is raise taxes...scary. jsut something to think about

I know this hard for people to get their heads around, but investing is how you get around inflation. Shocking I know.

I'm most impressed with the people that get true art degrees. Beating those idiot teachers handily.
It's actually interesting what you may student and get a 'Art' degree. I'm just a dumb SAIT grad but I know my wife graduated with an Arts degree and I just remember some of the majors being really all over the place.

Anyone have any td mutual funds they would recommend for the RESP? the TD comfort growth they put me in hasnt done anything the last 2 years (~1%) and half the time i look at it, its actually down.

Or, does anyone run their RESP through wealthsimple? comments? reading that they waive management fees if you are receiving the CLB grants

TD E-Series is the way to go. Your bank rep likely won't offer them up front because the MERs are much lower so the staff make less than their retail mutual funds which normally run 1.5% - 2.5% MERs.

Worth googling Rob Carrick ETF guide - should have some good details on the e-series

We run the kid's RESP through Wealthsimple and its been great. A true "set it and forget it" system plus I like the ability to always check in on the details on the fund. We started about 5 years ago with my son then added my daughter when she was born 3 years ago. It was a bit rough during covid but we are back up to just shy of 9% in returns.

I brought my RRSP over from my previous employer and am not doing that awesome there right now at just under 5% but I also have it in a growth account so a bit more risk.

For you guys with 2+ kids, do you go with family RESP or individual accounts.

Family is my preference, I can't see an advantage to individual accounts.

What stock/etf/index do you buy for the RESP? My daughters RESP is in a self directed account with Wealthsimple and I don't know what to put her $$$ in.

We have a family account and its roboinvested 80% in equities and 20% fixed income and gold. From their website it looks like the following break down:

25.8% US equities consisting of QUU and VTI
19.9% International equities consisting of ZEA
13.9% Emerging market equities consisting of EEMV
10% Canadian equities consiting of QCN
10% Global equities consisting of GLOV
    16.5% Government bonds through ZFL
    2.6% Gold through GLDM
1% Canadian short term bonds through ZCS
    0.3% Cash

I've allocated RESP funds to ETF, specifically VFV

    Any downsides?
