Default Gaming monitor or 4k TV? Is it worth it?

So, I am planning a build, and one of the things I am contemplating is getting a decent 4k TV instead of a monitor. It will do double duty as a TV and a monitor no matter which way I go.

I know dedicated gaming monitors are pretty pricey, but I am wondering if they are THAT much better over a tv... I am not a professional gamer by any stretch, but being able to hook up my Xbox, desktop, and use it as a tv is the priority.

    Thoughts? What am I missing?

    Refresh rate.

TVs may only have a refresh rate of say 60hz or 120hz or maybe 144hz

Gaming monitors will have a better black to white ratio, refresh rates, and pixel density.

Depending on your games.. a tv may work fine.

4k monitors get really pricey really quickly. A 27 wide-screen LG is only around $330 at mem ex, but the ultra wides and larger sizes shoot up in price.

Whereas with Sony you can get a 65" 4k TV for under 1500, and probably much less if your looking at amorw.budger vision. Refresh and contrast ratio are probably your biggest differences between a TV and a monitor.

How large are you wanting to go, and how far away are you sitting from the tv?

I am thinking somewhere around 36"-42" size, and I will be about 4.5' away.

I'm currently using this. 4k @ 30hz is definitely noticeable that the mouse trails, but I don't game so I don't care.

TV's are much better than monitors at being TVs and monitors are much better than TV's at being monitors. If you plan to play any games that benefit from higher refresh rates I would buy a 'proper' monitor, the sweet spot for most people is 144Hz and 1440P, 27" or so but I do see that you sit far away. Good monitors are so cheap these days, I would just get both personally and adjust your room accordingly.

Does the TV come with RGB? That's the real factor to think about, mate.
