I support the strike. What is wrong with these staff making $22.30 an hour? They clean sheets with piss/shit/blood/God knows what else on them. They are on the front lines of Covid. Not to mention the UCP is listening to lobbyists for contracts from laundry companies, who are coincidently some of their large donors. I can tell everyone on Beyond is getting old because you guys used to be centrist/lefties who were cool. But now you're all turning into your parents like "Build a pipeline! Unions bad! Trudeau bad! Make Alberta Great Again!"
Millions of dollars in needed upgrades to keep AHS workers doing a job they get hurt at more than any other department or send the remaining work out to companies that have been doing the bulk of the work for years?

Not to mention how this isn't unusual and other provinces outsource it. But because it's Kenney, it's automatically a horrendous thing and nothing but an attack on poor union members.

"K-bro" is what I say to @SKR when he tells me to buy an 8.1 or to @89coupe and @BavarianBeast when they post classy drinks.

Kenney gave billions to the oil industry that resulted in job losses. What is the issue with spending a few million dollars to upgrade the facilities and keep people employed in a decent paying job?

A few million keeps adding up... Laundry work isn't supposed to be a career for the majority is it? Usually a stepping stone into the hospital system so why's it pay exorbitantly better than other related job?

I didn't know you could embed a tweet!

Did they sole source the contract? Is it awarded? Is this the lobbying registry? I'm confused. Are they new companies? Did they previously have the contract?
i did hear Kenny say they are the only organization that is capable of running this prog....wait, no I didn't.

About the same time we considered lowering corporate tax rates equivalent to giving oil companies billions

$4.7 billion dollar hand outs to the oil industry that create zero jobs also add up. A $30 million/yr "war room" that does nothing and is un-foip-able adds up. Paying Matt Wolf over $200,000 a year to sit on his fat ass and tweet the Premier's talking points adds up. Paying Stephen Harper's son $100,000/yr while he sits at grad school in New York adds up. It's not supposed to be a career for the majority, but for some that $22.30/hr might be the best job they can get with their qualifications/skills/etc. Not everyone can be an engineer/doctor/accountant. If everyone could then we would have no one to pick up our garbage, or in this instance be a custodian at the hospital. Just because you work a "average" job doesn't mean you should be cast into poverty. Is a $5/hr savings for contracting everything out worth it?

Sounds an awful lot like communist talk.

Do minimum work with no consequences or repercussions for fuck-ups, get minimum salary. There is a reason why smart people like engineers and doctors get paid more than janitor staff. If you can't survive off $22.30/hr then maybe you need to lower your living standards, or upgrade your education/skills to make more than the basic minimum.

Not nearly as much as you love teh unions that’s clear

The fact that all these losers are so afraid of being exposed to market forces is exactly the reason we need to drain the swamp that is albertas government institutions.

I’m not a fan of anyone losing their jobs but Alberta needs to reign in spending. These types of jobs should be outsourced to the lowest bidder. Hopefully the ones out of a job will get re-hired at a more market driven non-union rate.

why is it everything the ucp does to reign in spending comes back to the war room or a hand out to the oil industry? Everytime i see an ndp supporter try to defend their position it comes to name calling and this same old argument. You did not dissapoint.

How do people continue to justify over spending in every industry? Why is the public sector any different then the private sector?

More importantly how can ndp supporters be against reasonable cost savings? Do you think money grows on trees? Let me guess you'll support more taxes on the private sector to continue the public sector gravy train?
