I guess my point was more that if you think the province is going to tread into the quagmire of strike breaking this you are out to lunch. Nothing to gain and so much face to lose.

    "front line workers"
    They're laundry and concession workers.
"Front line workers! And they only get 17$/hr"
"Here's the ahs laundry 1 job posting from 2 weeks ago saying 22.30"
    Front line workers!

    Fire the picketers.

I support the strike. What is wrong with these staff making $22.30 an hour? They clean sheets with piss/shit/blood/God knows what else on them. They are on the front lines of Covid. Not to mention the UCP is listening to lobbyists for contracts from laundry companies, who are coincidently some of their large donors. I can tell everyone on Beyond is getting old because you guys used to be centrist/lefties who were cool. But now you're all turning into your parents like "Build a pipeline! Unions bad! Trudeau bad! Make Alberta Great Again!"

I was at the hospital an hour after it was announced. Already had picket lines walking around the block. The nurses were pretty annoyed, because now they have to clean the entire department themselves.

When I first saw "AHS", I thought it was the docs and nurses.

I am not so concerned now that I know it's the concession and laundry staff. Especially with the amount of sub $150K Cenovsky workers looking for jobs.

I do feel like no matter what your political leanings, it's hard to say that the UCP is improving thier popularity this year with thier solid and steady leadership of this province. There's something to dislike for nearly everyone in their recent actions.

If they aren’t making the unions mad they aren’t doing their jobs.

Remember before the AHS superboard when most of these jobs were contracted out?

Sorry industrial laundry is industrial laundry... 17.56/hr is Alberta average.
    https://alis.alberta.ca/occinfo/occu...aundry-worker/

So just shy of 5$ over average, as an entry level starting wage... This is why AHS has no business doing these things in house.

Union rep: Listen guys, they are going to fire you all and you're never going to find another job again. Your families will starve and you will be ridiculed unless you strike illegally
Worker: But layoffs are happening everywhere, and they said that 80-90% of the jobs will become private sector jobs so can't I get a job over there to feed my family?
Union rep: YER GUNA LOSE YER JERBBBBBBB AND DIE!
And then we have a strike. Fucking unions....

I just drove by South Health campus and the AUPE flags are flying hard with the picketers fist pumping all the cars that pass them
Personnel from AUPE are literally texting these members and threatening that if they don't walk out, the union will not represent them.
Expect this story to be leaked and CBC to not report it.

Too bad a huge portion of laundry has been outsourced to K-Bro for years. It’s not a new company and not a new contract

I didn't know you could embed a tweet!

Did they sole source the contract? Is it awarded? Is this the lobbying registry? I'm confused. Are they new companies? Did they previously have the contract?

It's just someone posting stupid shit (most likely taking a snippet of the lobbying registry to try and stir the pot). K-Bro has been doing laundry for AHS for years and is sure isn't a new company, unless 1954 is recent.
