    Default AHS wildcat strike

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmon...kers-1.5776855

About 175 workers at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in central Edmonton refused to go into work Monday. Around 100 workers have also walked off the job at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary and the South Health Campus in Calgary.

Unions gonna walk out. It's like their main function.

Union rep: Listen guys, they are going to fire you all and you're never going to find another job again. Your families will starve and you will be ridiculed unless you strike illegally
Worker: But layoffs are happening everywhere, and they said that 80-90% of the jobs will become private sector jobs so can't I get a job over there to feed my family?
Union rep: YER GUNA LOSE YER JERBBBBBBB AND DIE!
And then we have a strike. Fucking unions....

I just drove by South Health campus and the AUPE flags are flying hard with the picketers fist pumping all the cars that pass them

Most of the workers involved in the wildcat strike are general support service staff whose jobs are at risk of being outsourced by the provincial government to private companies.

The workers, represented by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, are food service staff, cleaners, porters, clerical staff and maintenance workers.
    No mention of nurses.

The nurse strike will likely happen later down the line.

That's probably not for a while.
Replace nurses with AHS staff. The rhetoric really doesn’t change.

Hundreds of people don't just walk out, this was definitely coordinated at some level of the AUPE

Pretty laughable that the AUPE would expect anyone to believe that they had nothing to do with this. As if the support workers who are refusing to work managed to coordinate across the province and dig up a bunch of AUPE sign boards all on their own.

There were like 2-3 dozen of them outside of Foothills today.

    Unions suck. The end.

It just shows you how the system is broken, I was trying to find reference to this, but I believe Alberta Health Services owns two Tim Hortons Franchises, and both of them lose money every single year. It isn't surprising when you have to pay $20-25/hr to the individuals who work there.

To bad they can't do something like this here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Profes...ization_(1968)

I think the clientele is limited at those locations. You won't get random public in there unless they are in an hospital anyway.

The Tims in the surgery wing at Foothills operates more like a cafeteria just happened to carry Tim's coffee and closes at 6pm.

If it’s a wildcat strike they aren’t going to be getting strike pay.

This will neither be widespread nor last.

The province won’t touch this with a 20 foot pole.

Last I heard it was about 40 facility's taking part? I agree it will be short lived though. Day or 2 tops.

Might be a little longer - forecast says above zero for the next 10 days or so...
