Default Bad accident between xiron and the ring road, highway 2 south closed at Balzac

Was just heading north home when I crossed it. Highway was closed at Balzac and being diverted onto that. 2 vehicles on the highway and one with a really badly smashed up front end, half a dozen cops, half a dozen fire, 2-3 ambulances and 2-3 EMS SUV's. Can't be good. Feel sorry for anyone who witnessed it and with the number of cars stopped it sure seemed like they did.

If I had to guess, one of the vehicles came off the x-iron overpass onto the highway just based on angles and how close they were to it. Didn't get any photos because.... driving.... and the photo off my dashcam was terrible due to the low light at dusk and it being on the other side with the emergency lights

You’re saying a car fell off the bridge?

Here's a facebook photo someone found on Reddit. It seems like they may have come from the northbound lanes too if it was that big of a truck. I didn't notice the safety wires if they were intact or not. The blue matrix was missing about 90% of the front clip and passenger side quarter panel.

Coworker texted saying they saw it and was pretty sure they saw CPR being done on 2 people.

Based on that photo and damage to the back, the truck went over top of the blue car

At around the same time, another crash happened at Yankee Valley Boulevard under the Highway 2 overpass. A woman driving a sedan hit a truck going in the same direction. She went through the ditch, crossed the centre line and hit on-coming traffic. A 20-year-old woman in one of the vehicles was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A man and woman in their 40s in the other vehicle were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
This is the one we're talking about, right? That doesn't sound as bad as it could have been.

Someone posted on Reddit they were almost the first car hit. Apparently the guy made it across the northbound lanes, over / through the center median, then smashed into a ton of people going southbound. I couldn't imagine a vehicle getting through the hump / hollow of the median, those safety cables, and still smoking a car with that much force. Guess I was wrong.

    Edit:

I was in a vehicle that was almost the first one hit by the truck... The truck went straight over the whole northbound Lanes and flew over the median and took out everything and everyone on the southbound Highway... I came just feet away from getting clipped in the front end when he came across... I'm awaiting a phone call from the police to give my statement and I'm really hoping that everybody survived...

Hug your family's tight tonight... You never know when it can all be over

No Yankee is in Airdrie (first overpass). This one was at x-iron. There was another one at Balzac and Center Street I guess. That is a notoriously bad intersection as well.

Edit 3: article is from 2016.... thanks ReiRei

Were conditions bad or something? I'm baffled how this cluster of accidents happened. Fluke?

No it was nice actually. No idea, it isn't like those accidents (except maybe the 566 / center one) would be related either. One going north, one going south, one under the underpass.

You'd think they'd have that cleaned up by now.
