I appreciate people who have a different outlook on life. They are rebels for sure.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

I previously owned a 2017 R with the DSG, also in Lapiz Blue. I bought it new and then got rid of it a few years later at the beginning of Covid, but kind of regretted that decision. I’ve been casually keeping an eye on MK8 R’s for a while, though I had no interest in paying over sticker price and waiting for up to a year to get one. Even though there are still plenty of delusional dealerships in AB trying to sell them for North of $60K, after some shopping around I found a slick top MT for under sticker price with no BS packages. And seeing as the 2024 MY is the last year you'll be able to buy one with a stick shift, I went for an MT this time around. Bring on the haptic button jokes

oh care to share what dealer you went to? i can't tell how interested i am but just maybe lol

I dealt with a few but ended up buying from Okotoks VW. It was a no-nonsense transaction. PM me if you'd like to know the guy I dealt with there and I'll split the referral with you

I'd definately consider another Golf R especially with the 2025 likely redoing the steering wheel buttons. They are still a great deal for the Canadian market. Nice purchase!

Yah it’s shocking how much more they cost in the US. It’s almost the same amount in USD as we pay up here in CAD.

That's what I was thinking. I had to go fact check max, cause I thought for sure they were >$60k haha. They do indeed start in low 50s.

Let us know when you retrofit your steering wheel with one from a '25 that has buttons

I was actually just barely under $50K before tax

Edit: before GST and dealer fees.

Hey 94Boosted, how do you compared this new generation of Golf R to the last one you had? Seen a lot of reviews, but nobody had owned either long time, so your opinion would be valuable.

Check back with me in a few weeks. Engine break-in is 1000km, so it'll take me a while.

The old one was kinda meh at the limit, even with better wheel/tires and a stiff rear bar. But as a fun daily, it was really good. Hopefully this one will be better.

Next gen gti looks like it fixes some issues with climate control and seat heating and cooling. I imagine the golf r will be the same if it makes it here, one last go at a gas engine??

Just got myself a ‘24, manny. It just may be, the last new car I buy.

    I’ve owned 04, 13, 17, 19 all for considerable durations.

I’ll try to update later this summer, with a review.

Nice. I'll be curious to hear what your mk8 vs mk7.5 R comparison is like.

I'm quite happy with my '19 R and have no immediate plans to part with it.
