    Default Some powdercoating we've done

Been doing some powdercoating for fun for a couple years with my father in law just from home. Starting to do wheels and figured out the best way of doing them now.

Here's a few pics of some wheels that were just done.

OEM wheels from a '15 Lancer black chrome(before color hanging in the back ground)

    19" honda civic wheels(before)

    After-pearl white

This winter im going to try and powdercoat my lovely chrome wheels from the lightning, see how it turns out.

    Wheels look great!
Is the powder coating difficult/time consuming?

Had a project I wanted 30 or so - 1" washers done in white, but never bothered to look for quotes or find out if its a pain in the ass.

It can be time consuming depending on the prep needed, but the less prep, the better and quicker it is. Its more time consuming waiting for the oven lol

You're just using an airless sprayer to do this?

    Looks great BTW!

Nice one! I'd be rocking a new colour on my wheels on a monthly basis if I could do this in-house. lol. They look great, good one.

Every powder coater I talk to says pretty much the same thing. The actually stripping and prepping is more work than the coating and cooking. Acid bath is becoming more common and easier than blasting, but then you have the issues of dealing with storage and disposal of caustic chemicals. It all comes down to how much a person has to put out versus what you bring in like anything I guess hey?

Ya thats exactly it. The last wheels done had so much prep because they had a ton of left over plastidip on them, its a PITA having to prep that stuff, let alone getting tires on and off.

Looking really good! What prep do you usually do for these?

Thanks! It obviously depends on whats been on the wheel, but the Lancer one for example, basically just a good clean, gun wash, acetone and a scotch brite, because they were OEM, they were pretty clean.

The civic wheels are a nightmare because of plastidip.

Nice, I assumed you would need to media blast down to bare metal before powdercoating.

So ive been procrastinating getting this old schwinn bmx "restored". A while ago I tore it all apart, sandblasted it and today I finally coated it.

It turned out alot more red than I hoped, trial and error, but its 60/40 gloss black/bright red, should have done 70/30. Anyways, here it is...not the best pics I know.

    Before(blasted)

    Prior to oven

    After oven

Those civic wheels are night and day, the all white looks great in comparison to the factory two tone.

They look like a completely different wheel altogether. I'm thinking about doing my winter wheels on my own civic in white
