Default New sectional from Leon's / Brick - Negotiate?

At 35 I guess it is time to finally buy a couch not from Ikea or Kijiji. Im looking at a decent sectional, cost around $2100. I've heard that you can negotiate at the Brick. Im wondering if the same can be said of Leon's? They opened a new mega-store at Crossiron which we're thinking we will hit up. If you can still haggle, how much is right? Are we talking Dodge / Mattress prices or save the GST sort of thing.

We got an additional $200 off a couch we bought on boxing day a few years ago from Leons. It was originally like 1200, was listed for 800 and we paid 600 + tax. They seemed really keen to get rid of it at the time. So it may depend on timing. I have negotiated similar at lay z boy as well.

The idea that Leon's is higher quality than Ikea is laughable.

100p. The difference is you don't have to put anything together yourself.

You have to get some particular brand names of furniture to get better quality, and the prices are much higher.

Leon's used to have what they called "integrity pricing" which was a fancy way of saying zero haggling.
    Not sure, now.
The Brick will give you massive discounts but you have to put up with the most grotesque, high pressure sales bullshit in the industry.

definitely don't buy anything at the brick.. ever.

Leons is the same shit, but it's a little easier to pass.

    Leons owns the Brick.

    I would pass on both.

Interesting I didn't know this. Don't get me wrong I didn't expect the best in the biz sort of thing but I hadn't realized they were on par with Ikea. We're also looking at Wayfair. Maybe we will stick to those.

    I echo everyone here.

Brick = Cheap in price, will give deep discounts, but cheap products. I have had nothing last more than 5 years. Bonus is, if you do get the extended warranty here, its a 99% chance you will get a good chunk of money back if you make a claim. Everything i have bought, they ask for pictures and credit me 80% of the cost of the furniture.

Leons = Marginally better quality but no haggling. The price is the price. Much less sales sleeze because of this though so its a better experiance.

My recommendation if you want lower cost big box furniture, check out ashleys. They are more expensive but MUCH better quality. They will haggle a bit on some things like warranty or delivery.

I don't know one person including myself that has bought something off of wayfair and had it not damaged in shipping. Its a pain for sure. They will fix it or credit it but the process is painfull.

I have a pathological hatred for sales tactics, so I'd buy at Ikea even if it cost more. Unless I was looking for something unique that was only available at one of those other stores for some reason.
Also, I'm not saying Ikea is awesome quality, just that it's no worse than the other "big box" type stores, all similar level ( or lack) of craftsmanship.

Do you have 19 weeks to wait for it? That's where Ashley's often punishes you.

Not much to add, other than this makes me miss nordesign. We have a bunch of furniture from there, and it was almost the perfect happy medium between big box and high end (price and quality).

+1 for checking out Eq3. For online, I'd recommend checking out Article. Their stuff is higher quality than wayfair (albeit more money as well). A buddy of mine got a sectional from there and raves about it.

Cos, just come down to the furniture district (Deerfoot Meadows and area) and check out a dozen stores at once.

You'll get a good feel for prices and quality.

I liked Ashley's better than the Brick. Also for some reason 'furniture extreme' locally seems to sell Ashleys products, I bought the same identical bed set there for a few hundred less. Not sure if its just a sub-brand or they use the same distributor but I basically picked everything out at Ashleys then went over and ordered through them instead.

My problem with Ikea is I've yet to sit on an Ikea couch and be like 'wow this is so comfy'. So many of them are just so firm and look nice but lack comfort.

Be careful, sometimes you order an expensive cabinet and a kid arrives knocking on your door.

You should try Revolve - they are usually willing to move a little bit..
