An acquaintance that works at JPM texted the following to a group chat I'm in earlier today. tl;dr, he thinks they're mutually exclusive. I'm also dumb, so have no opinion one way or the other, but this makes sense to me.

The company is eventually a zero so if you trade any of these reddit backed trades, get in and get out.
They can only do this to small cap stocks with low avg daily trading volumes where retail money like reddit can move a stock because institutional investors know the company is not a buy.

I was telling my wife about the $GME this morning and she was like well you can buy a couple if you want....I didnt tell her about AMC.

My wife is the most risk adverse person with investing. Everything in medium risk mutual funds since she was in her 20s. Im 40 now and all my stuff is in high risk.

There is a saying that when people like your wife wants to get in, it's time to get out.

Everything is ran by institutional money... WSB is just people coming up with wacky investment thesis on plays they think have legs... some times everyone laughs at them... and then a year later they get traction and everyone piles in with memes and rallies a small amount of retail investor momentum... but it’s the big boys actually moving stocks. They just don’t blast it on social media... well... besides Chamath

back when GME was $2.50, it was probably possible for WSB individuals to make this move. There's only 47 million shares, and a quarter of those are with insiders and potentially frozen out from action like this. So really, "active" share value is under $100 milllion. a couple million bucks in trades makes a big difference, I think.

At $100, $200, $300, that works less.
