I’m not sure. I had it set to “dehumidify” mode, so maybe that overrides any kind of defrost cycle? I’m not sure. Either way, I’m gonna keep the door of the unit open today and let it completely melt, now that the temps are getting warmer hopefully it won’t be too much of a problem anymore.

Why on earth would you have it on dehumidify in Calgary? It's so dry here that the thing probably had to get moisture from BC.

    A valid question.

    Want to dehumidify?

Open your front door for 10-15 minutes.

To make most HRV's work and not be drafty, they need a pre heat and post heat source installed in this climate. I've seen so many with ambient thermostats to just shut them down below -10C.

This is the one we had.

Had a 5th port to run a defrost cycle. No heater.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

Went full YOLO last night, turned up the humidity to 36% on my Ecobee. Feels much better in the house today. Indoor humidistats say 30% as the heat has barely kicked in.

Mine stays around 35% pretty easily. Dropped like a rock when I turned it down during the cold snap for a few days. This graph is the last month.

Most of the winter I'd prefer to have it 45-50%. Maybe when I get off my ass and install the desert spring unit that will be possible. Can't do it now.

35-45% when -20 or colder for most people is gonna cause a lot of ice up issues. I noticed above 25% I was getting a good amount of ice on the windows.

Also good luck with that humidifier a lot of mixed reviews on it.

My BIL moved into a new house last year, was so jealous at the 40% humidity and no icing up on his windows. Probably the only good thing he got out of his divorce.
