    Default Reputable transmission shops

My 04 cobra's transmission (t56) has decided to refuse to come out of first gear (transmission is out of the car so it's not a clutch issue - the damn thing is frozen in 1st)

It's a pretty straight forward transmission to work on I think .... are there any recommended ford/mustang shops around here that one would recommend taking it to to have it repaired ... or should I just bring it to a dealership and let them rape me?

OMG no to dealer for tranny work - esp manuals, which they are completely inept and very little experience with.

You dont need a Ford specialty shop for this, its a common enough box that most 3rd party tranny shops should should be able to service. If you are planning on keeping the car though, might be worth upgrades etc, while you are in there.

If I recall T56es are cunts to find parts for. So if you can find a good tech to rip it apart and find what's gone wrong, the actual failed parts may not be replaceable.

Manuals are super easy to work on. Don't be scared to do it yourself. I rebuilt mine in the MR2, with no previous experience on transmissions. You've built your own cars before, so I know you can wrench.

I ended up taking it to the National Transmission on Macleod Trail.

They took it in next day, found the problem same day and fixed it (broken roll pin).

Very satisfied; would take another transmission there again if I needed work done.
