Default Are expensive ($3k+) massage chairs worth it?

Curious if anyone here has splurged on the expensive massage chairs and how much use you get out of them? Was thinking of getting one but also know people who bought cheaper ones and it seems they just sit in their living room unused.

If you do use massage chairs regularly, any recommendations on brand/models to look for?

Had a friend that bought a high end Phillips one. It has to have been a $5k+ one but somehow he got it through a connection in the US via Costco, or something. Anyway, it had more features than the $5k ones I've seen. I sat in it and it was amazing. So, so much better than the cheaper ones.
He used the living shit out of it. I'd strongly recommend extended warranty platinum on these because I've seen a cheaper one need repairs and it was very expensive.

The few times I've been in these chairs they have been pretty awesome. They always seem to be 50% off as well.

I was in a ~$15K massage chair in Japan and it was amazing, but there just seems like so many things can go wrong. Numerous air pumps, bladders, motors, etc. seem like a reliability nightmare over time. That would worry me given how expensive they are.

The sheer ugliness of these is what would keep it out of my house. I wouldn't want one if it was free.

If I had space for one, I would 110% own one.

My wife and I have been pondering the same thing.

My parents bought one ~10 yrs ago for $1500ish. It's not a huge bulky one which seem to be the norm now. We really love it. Sit down on a cold day, turn the heat function on, recline, and let it do the work. I feel like a million bucks afterwards. My parents use it daily, and when I visit I also use it daily. No issues in 10+ years of use. It's not a brand name chair either, some generic Made in China brand with broken english in the user manual. Would definitely buy if I can find the exact same model.

Interested to hear from Beyonders who have recently purchased one of the brand name (Panasonic/Philips etc) chairs.

Going by the number given away sold cheap broken before the leather wears out...

    I'd say bad investment.

I have sat in a few of the name brand ones, which were lovely. All that is missing are a pair of VR goggles...

Buy a normal chair and use the savings for a whole lot of rub and tugs. Comfort and a happy ending!

I imagine they are much like hot tubs where you use the shit out of it the first few years, then less and less, but you don't want to get rid of it, because it's still nice to have.

Unlike a hot tub though, it doesn't need weekly upkeep and doesn't add $50 to your electric bill even when not in use. However you also can't start an orgy in a massage chair.

I got a cheap one (under $2K when on sale) and another one $8K ..

Is the more expensive one better, yes, but does it worth 4-5 times more ... no ...

My parents has two massage chair as well, one is the mid price ~8K one, one is higher end $15K + something like that ... is it 2 times better than the $8k one? (with music Yes, but not 20 times better than $2K one.

So, long story short, I think those $2-3K one will do the job, may well use the extra money for "real human" massage!

Can you clarify if it is possible to start an orgy in those things? It doesn't have to end there, it just has to start.

Mods should split this into a separate thread.

Is the massage chair store still in Cross Iron? I used to stop by there everytime I passed by and loved getting a massage though I think they started getting annoyed at all the free public demos with 0 interest in buying after a while. IIRC the ~4-5k range was the sweet spot. The 10k+ chairs didn't really feel any better but the 4-5 chairs still had the body scanners that adjust to your body which was nice. The cheaper ones just ran a pre-set routine so was good but not as great.

That was years ago though so I imagine stuff has improved. I imagine they're expensive as fuck to repair so if Costco has some nice ones I'd probably go that route.

Massage chairs are not for everyone but for me they're a life saver, its doesnt beat a Rub and tug with tea bag but it does the trick when im desperate. I bought one off wayfair about 2 years ago for $3k and it was totally worth it. Its the zero gravity type so its a monster of a chair and needs a large foot print to fully extend out.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

My dad got a Panasonic one from the Home and garden show a few years ago and it is still going strong. I love using it every time we go over.

I can’t imagine a universe where I would spend 50 dollars on a massage chair let alone 3,000.

    Buy a spa instead?

You can judge until you have had your balls massaged by these things.
