    Default Advent calendars

Tomorrow is Dec 1. What advent calendars do you guys have this year?

I normally don't do advent calendars, but this is the second year in a row I've got an English Tea Shop one. Packaging isn't nice, but some of the teas sound good.

The one I had last year was actually 12 teas repeated halfway.

I usually get the davids tea one but this year ended up getting the nespresso one.

I tried to find one of the beer advent calendars but none were to be found, eight different stores. A couple I talked to said they got very little stock this year and were sold out the day they got them.

Made my own this year, laser cut out of birch and is reusable. It's double sided with 12 more boxes on the backside

Sick! I was going to cut something out on the CNC but I got too busy with the job job that I didn't have a chance for any shop time. That looks really good!

That is awesome, that would be something I would fork out money for.

Out of curiosity what do you think would be reasonable price? I considered selling stuff but with no markets this year didn't bother. Would be like ~30$ unassembled or 50$ assembled (about 30-60 minutes to snap together)

    Might try for next year

I feel like $50-100 would be a fair price for something like that. Without knowing any details, that is what similar looking ones are priced at. No idea how big the market is like for something like that though. At a craft fair or something I bet you could charge $100.

Hmm, good to know. I'd probably have to find something decent to put inside it to charge that though, or do you think people would buy it as a DIY calendar where they can put their own items in it? This year I put chocolates and QR codes to new music for my friends.

Usually the cheap $2 crap chocolate calendars are reminiscent for me from my childhood...
But splurged on the Lindt calendar this year from Costco.

I feel like if it's reusable, most people would buy it with the intention of putting their own daily surprises in it. If you're putting food or chocolates in it that adds another layer of complexity and potentially liability that you probably don't want to bother with.

Look on places like Etsy and see what others are offering.

That is beautiful @pheoxs ! Yeah I think if you made just the empty calendar for people to fill, people would jump all over that.

And based on Mask Bandit's comment, you could probably even make a bigger, stronger version for people who want to make their own beer advent calendars as there's clearly a market for that.

Thanks I'll check that out. I avoided added it to my online shop as its kinda bulky/heavy and I don't want to ship it. Guranteed CanadaPost would trash it somehow. But local sales is a good idea though a bit late for it. Might make some other Christmas stuff to keep busy.

Check out Home Sense. It's only $8. The one I got last year had some really awesome teas that I ended up buying afterwards.

That is some serious talent! That thing is beautiful. Definitely market that as a DIY which opens up endless options for a buyer and you dont have to worry about filling it up. Very very impressed. If you're starting a wait list please add me on!

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

I think your looking at $40 and $60 if assembled. It's simply wonderful and you've done a great thing!
For 2021, consider if you make it without finger holes so "no peaking" but include a tiny hook/tool or something to open the drawers?
