Default Disinfecting the soles of your shoes? Covid-19 weirdness micro-thread

Mods, feel free to move to the covid subforum if needed.

So, I'd like to preface this by saying that I know this has been a tough year, and most people are doing their best with the information and knowledge that they have. I don't want to quibble about the various risk-mitigation measures that businesses and individuals choose to implement for the Covid-19 pandemic. However..... at one of my workplaces, an individual has decided that everyone should disinfect the soles of their shoes upon entering the office. Ok, weird, but whatever, I don't want to hassle someone. The part that gets me (more) confused is that they've suggested that everyone also disinfect their soles of their shoes at the end of the day before they go home. Before they take the bus, c-train etc.
Several people are choosing to do this, very enthusiastically spraying lysol all over the entryway.

What in the fuck, I ask, could that possibly help?

Should just invest in some hoof and mouth airport mats, no inconvenience for normal people, keeps the rest sane(ish) knowing you can’t get in or out without stepping on it

I'm sure there is scientific evidence to support this decision. It's 2020, people don't just go around making stuff up to make themselves feel better. Common now.

My doctor's office, gym, and physio/massage place make you leave your shoes outside for this reason. Not sure how much it helps. I guess it's just an extra precaution.

Somewhat unrelated but in some countries you can't go on certain hiking trails without disinfecting the bottom of your shoes but that is for agricultural reasons. There are machines designed for this - maybe your company can order one and fill it with Lysol haha.

    WTF.

People aren't even doing it right and just cause delays on everything to "disinfect." Spraying and wiping right away is wrong.

It takes 4 minutes for Lysol to work. You can't just spray it on and wipe it off. I hope your work cohorts are standing at the door for 4 minutes before they enter the office.

Wait. You guys don’t have the peons at work kiss your shoes upon arrival?

    Sanitized shoes sounds very smart.

these are the people who will focus on one thing, like shoes, and then neglect the obvious like washing hands properly

After denmark's mink cull, and the zombie mink re-emergence... Nothing's too crazy anymore...

Why not just a tray of disinfectant, step into it, step into a mat - like they do at farms when they need quarantine...

When I read the title of this thread I thought OP was asking about their own home. I knew so many white folks who wear shoes into their carpeted house (probably a rental lol). I find that extremely disgusting even pre covid. So I imagine those who continue to wear shoes into their homes, they should in theory disinfect their shoes? lol

It’s common practice in meat processing plants to have decontamination mats to walk through even from area to area in the same building, but any kind of retail or office environment it would seem a little ridiculous. No chance I’m manually spraying my boots with over the counter cleaner though. People are clearly freaking out.

Oh yeah, people are freaking out, and I honestly don't blame em. A tray of disenfectant solution to walk through is probably more effective. I've seen those when flying into NZ.

Like here, in Canada? I know that's a weird ass American thing but the only people I've ever seen in my life do it here either wear slippers or have like dedicated inside shoes and that's mostly because their house is tile and hardwood floor (and to be fair that's only my father in law).
