Some companies are worth a certain $ in share price vs $ in production.
SDE is lower than some peers. So maybe the parts of SDE would be worth more than the whole? Suspect the market is not giving "full value" for the acquisitions, or has some reason to dislike them vs other Canadian "non-oilsands" names. I personally like the assets, mostly, but that's only because they are in areas I've worked. Assigning a value to a basket of assets is outside my scope.

I do feel like the market would figure it out over time. But boards have a duty to shareholders to maximize, so they are looking at options.

Purchasing companies almost always results in a short to med term price valuation drop since you're taking over assets that haven't been performing well.

Heard a rumor people were looking at Obsidian. Don't think that makes sense, but I'm not in the a&d space. Mike you guys wanna buy that?

There's a pretty big ARO liability with Obsidian. Maybe someone was interested due to the Peace River growth plan announced today? 100% WI might be attractive to some.

Peyto buying Repsol might be a sign that buying silly amounts of ARO might not be as much of a deal breaker as people thought.

ARO is better the further north and west you go, right?

ARO is just the new debt.

That ARO was a little silly. There was a bunch of caveats protecting the buyer essentially stating if actual ARO was over their estimated ARO by "X" amount then Repsol would share costs, but it was still significant. For any midsize company that has had any sort of focus on liability reduction it would have set them back quite a bit.

lol, just came across this where the Government of Canada expects WTI prices to be $52.50 in 2030 and $40 in 2050.

They're even more delusional and bad with budget estimates than I thought.
