Wow dannie. I do not envy what you guys deal with on a day-to-day basis.

I was just at the registry yesterday and it was so pleasant. 2 year renewal on a vehicle and address change. What a breeze. I wish I knew there was a place that doesn't charge the full $13 service fee but you know what, you guys deserve it for the shit you guys deal with lol. So many customers around me were pissed off and had negative attitudes because they lacked knowledge and I can see them staff try hard to be understanding and nice.

On a positive note, I lost my registration for one of my cars that expire in 2022 and luckily my address change gives me a new copy for free. Win!
We are in the midst of starting up a social media account for road testing and day to day registry life stuff. You'd be shocked at how brutal some days are. Fingers crossed that we can humanize the experience a little more.

And yup! They just print out the new ones when there is an address change. It's quite handy now, compared to waiting for it in the mail.

    Dumb question.

Any particular reason I need my registration slip to renew expired registration?

Vehicle in question is in storage a couple hours away, would prefer not to have to pay it a visit to get the slip prior to going to a registry to get it back on the road.

It depends on the situation. If it just expired and is solely in your name, you don't need it. If it's expired more than 3 months, you need it. More than a year, you'll have some paperwork to do on top of all of it. If it's in anyone elses name besides yours (ie: you and a spouse), you need the registration.

That being said, a pic on your cell is good enough. Personally, I keep a pic of all my reg/ins on my mobile device just in case.

edit: as for why - It's a government policy thing. Registry agents are bound by a significant code of conduct that includes criminal charges for looking at a file they shouldnt be. They need the doc because we use some of the numbers off it to go into your file (usually) because the agent wouldn't be able to guess the specific numbers for your vehicle. It's like a safety catch.

It’s my wife’s car, in her name only.

    Expired in January.

    Sounds like I’m SOL

Yup. Can someone take a pic of the reg from the car for you and message it to you? That's your best and easiest bet.

Nah no one is down there.

Ahh well it’s just gas and time to go get it then pop over to Vulcan then. And by time, I mean my wife’s time this all sounds like a her problem.

LOL for sure a her problem. There is a registry in Vulcan too, if it's easier for her. The woman that owns it is really nice and super easy to deal with.

Sounds like a car that's never driven? So why do you need it registered now...

It’s her summer car, we just haven’t taken it out of storage yet.

Just trying to figure out the order of operations for getting it back on the road.

If I would have had the slip I would have just registered it in Jan online like I usually do

I wish there was insurance with self-serve (online) coverage switching. Would make having winter-only and summer-only cars a lot easier. I always take the PLPD off my summer car over winter, and this year am contemplating taking it off my winter Subaru for summer. Sick of paying out the ass for insurance even though I have zero accidents.

Some brokers you can make the switch with a single email. That's pretty easy.

It’s usually a 15 minute phone call for me, and I get my slip by email.

Pandemic made that a lot worse though.

I was wondering, might bring an older 1964 car from bc to Alberta, what are the rules on getting an OOP? Do I need one?
