Great post. The variant thing is being way overblown.

I disagree. Seeing the india variant ravage my coworkers and family this time around, seeing how fast it’s spreading, and the staggering number of high severity outcomes this time around, we’re dealing with a completely different beast.

In the span of 2 weeks, we’ve had more employees needing ventilators and deaths of family members than all of 2020 combined. It’s fucking sad to see more and more of my coworkers affected on a daily basis right now.

If it’s a small blip, sure chalk it up as anecdotal. It feels like a 10 fold increase at the moment compared to last years wave.

3. Human behavior has altered in a way that makes it look like #1 and #2 are true.

There is a whole shit ton of #3 here. This virus has always been nasty. It has always been easily spread. What you see and perceive as a much more dangerous virus is probably less about the biology of the virus itself and more about the human brains difficulty in perceiving exponential growth.

Things are so stressed out, ambulances and covid treatment drug prices are currently 10-20x higher due to price gouging, and you can only buy them from the black market. The situation is insane right now, it’s much worse than what we see in the media. There is no measurable way that human behavior can come close to explaining what is happening.
