Tell ya what, let the unvaccinated have their own healthcare fund that they contribute and can withdraw, and the vaccinated have a separate one. Enjoy.
agreed, same for smokers, obese people, high risk hobbies, those who decide to continue pregnancies after screening for downs syndrome, etc.

lets only have golden tier citizens allowed to access healthcare.

also lets implement China's social credit system.

I think you just pitched Singapore's healthcare system. Rank #1 as the world's most efficient.

    https://www.commonwealthfund.org/int...ries/singapore

This is why they have reach 76% 2 dose so far and raising and expected to hit 90% next month. Because everyone got skin in the game. If COVID fucked them up, their Medisave account could be drained.

If we need to set up some kind of "social credit" scoring system, I think I can suggest a partner with considerable experience in that area.

We're not talking rich vs poor, we're talking making a conscious decision to not get vaccinated and drain public resources. Everyone should have access to healthcare, and no one should get priority access due to money. Everyone should get the best care possible.

So your authoritarianism is more justified than another?

Shit, maybe I'm not so good at this game, I didn't realize we were playing with the "moral relativism" card in play.

    Unless you haven't been vaccinated.

Everyone is equal, some are more equal than others.

Again, I'm all for this, so long as we remain consistent and include all 'voluntary' variables. Smokers, Unvaccinated, High-Risk Activities, Drug Users, etc. - all drain public resources. Cut them out.

I think we should place more responsibility on the individual in terms of costs.

However, pandemics are a unique challenge in that they can create significant short term demand on a healthcare system.

    We agree!

How many COVID ICU admissions are individuals who meet this criteria:

    - Obese
    - Lack of proper workout regime/strength training
    - Poor diet/nutritional deficiency
    - At risk behavior (excessive drinking, smoker, drug user)

My guess is 75%+ admissions meet at least one of these criteria. All these factors are well within an individuals control.

All but one of those in ICU beds for COVID-19 (96 per cent) were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and 82.1 per cent of non-ICU patients were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated
    A factor within individual control..

It's a pretty wide net you thrown out there. Even if it's true, are you ready to reduce other freedoms in order to keep your right not to vaccinate?

Obesity may not be much of a factor. Japanese ain't obese and their hospitals are still overran. And this is a country where your annual checkup is graded and result is shared with you employer and will impact your performance ratings and get chew out by HR/Boss if you don't have a "normal" grade.

This is true for a pandemic that might not select based on other factors - and our hospital system could easily fall under pressure from covid by people who are otherwise healthy but need to be hospitalized.

    I disagree:

CDC study finds about 78% of people hospitalized for Covid were overweight or obese
    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/03/08/covi...-or-obese.html

Japan is also one of the largest tobacco consumers in the world.
    https://www.who.int/tobacco/surveill...rofile/jpn.pdf

The point is, these four factors are broad, but very simple to mitigate. And arguably they have the biggest impact on public health, regardless of pandemia.
