Don't forget the fact that thanks to their union they are now allowed to hire to back fill any positions that are currently off on leave because it needs to remain open for them should they want to return. They can thank their peers for a lot of the heart burn they have with staffing shortages.

Nurses get real crabby about having to work 5 days a week to get 5 days of pay.

They much prefer doing a crappy job with heavy OT over 2-3 days. Bonus points for getting to complain about being overworked while making the taxpayer a sucker.

I hardly know any nurses that work 5 days a week. But they pick shifts up pretty easy when these premium ones become available

I think if I show him the other side or how the data has been misinterpreted/misrepresented, without judgement or ridicule, he may read more closely into the articles and begin to question them on his own.

Regrettably, 99 times out of 100, people don't change until they discover that their conduct is detrimental to their OWN well-being. Until it rings home, it doesn't ring home. I think you were right in taking a softer approach and try to lead him to the facts like a puppy, but in my experience, that approach produces very limited results as, in the end, the person is still being forced to face their own inadequacies. That in turn makes them feel attacked (even if they are not), to double down, and to see YOU as the problem. It's a vicious cycle.

It's also quite amazing what a dozen years of marriage teaches you...

Depends how far down the conspiracy rabbit hole they've gone, or how much of the CNN Kool-Aid they've been chugging. In our little home grown case, it is DonJuan and SportEL blowing eachother. I think it's great that they found something to unite on, dismissal of information.
