Got mine this afternoon. Solid hour and a half in there with all the barriers and 15minutes after to wait out any reactions.

Now to party like its 2019
I was there this afternoon as well. Just over 1.5 hours by the time I got out of there. I was confused when it was lined up down the block that this was the line for appointments. Then the maze of line inside.

So we have cracked over 28% vaccinated in the province. Starting to get a decent “mass” of people with some immunity out there such that I’d expect things to start looking better on the cases front but the data suggests they really aren’t.
I'm not surprised, between more infectious variants and people just being "done" with being careful. I actually expected it to be worse by this point... though I suspect the warmer weather tends to help things as well so there really are lots of variables in play. There is still time for this to get bad, but each week that passes and we get more vaccinated, it seems less and less likely.

My uneducated prediction for this whole scenario is that once those who want vaccinations have them and things return to "normal", Covid will still bounce around the unvaccinated community for some time. I don't think we're going to get enough of the so-called "herd immunity" that it will become completely eradicated for several years.

Makes me wonder how long the immunity really lasts with these vaccines...

Herd immunity can mean a lot of different things to different politicians.....

For instance it may mean very different things to Justin Trudeau and Jason Kenney.

My opinion, we've reached "good enough herd immunity" when hospitalizations and ICU units are both under minimal stress. From new severe covid cases.

Zero cases is not a target I think is worth talking about.

For some time? Dude, people still get the swine flu.

Also I don't think anybody has brought this up here, but boosters might be required every six months.

    lol.

I heard (I still need to find the source on this, so it's probably irresponsible to say this without personally verifying) that the US is more vaccinated than we are, but Canadians are doing so at a faster rate, and that might be because the vaccination rate is hitting the immovable object of vaccine hesitancy.
Whether it's Black-Americans' skepticism given their history with "vaccines" and the health establishment; Latin-Americans worrying about potentially being deported; or Native Americans who have similar skepticisms with the Black-Americans. There's a chance that the US may never actually hit the number for herd immunity. That doesn't include the conservatives who refuse the vaccine on religious or "scientific" grounds.
I just looked the stats up last night, I didn't save the link and don't care enough to do the google search again. But as of April 20th, the US is claiming 40% of population with at least one dose, and Canada is about 25%(apparently up to 28% now according to Killramos)

28 is Berta. Canada average is higher because natives got it first.

I can't imagine that 3% of the population getting first access had virtually any effect on our overall percentages. I haven't seen an update on Canada numbers though, as mentioned we were at 25% 2 days ago federally. If we are now at like 30% federally, that just means the gap to the US is even tighter and there is zero reason to be locked down at this point.

Why speculate. Number of doses administered is freely available. As is the population of Canada.

Tl: dr Canada’s overall numbers are a fair bit higher than berta. Because natives like I said.

Buncha different stats so depends what you look at. Though with Canada deciding to extend 2nd doses it does mean we are doing over double the 1st doses per day than the US.

Last 24 hours (% are of total population)
Canada: 360k doses (0.947%) with 316k being first doses (0.832%)
US: 2.995m doses (0.908%) with 1.345 being first doses (0.408%)

    Canada's 1st dosage numbers:
    1 day ago - 10798150 (+316732)
    2 days ago - 10481418 (+238000)
    3 days ago - 10243418 (+262792)
    4 days ago - 9980626 (+200717)
    5 days ago - 9779909 (+254177)

We are still behind in terms of total vaccines given but our rate is picking up while the US has been declining for over a week. In fact their 1st dose numbers have fallen off a cliff lately despite opening every state to 16+ which is a very poor indicator

Alberta specifically is a bit behind in terms of % 1st dosage but thats because we've done far more 2nd doses than any other province because we kept the 2nd appointments for earlier people (mainly elderly)

Plus, Canada got much better at "we are just 13 countries loosely affiliated by some sort of flag and it's super cool for each province to put up walls, or whatever".
Meanwhile, Herr Justin can't be bothered to say a thing about unity or Canadians In This Together, or fucking anything of any value.
Hair Justin is a dirty cunt stain who has done more to divide our country in a time of crisis than anyone. Ever.

I'm not speculating, I'm using the official numbers that were valid less than 48 hours ago. If you're saying the numbers are higher now, then great, I don't care enough to birdog you, it just further validates what I said anyway.

And AHS is ceasing Walk-in vaccination at the Calgary Telus Convention Centre. Friday is the last day. So just make appointments I guess.

Dumb question- which may have been covered already.

Are they seeing positive results with the vaccines for all the new variants?

About 20% of our doses have gone to second doses, for the RoC it drops to about 7%, that's where the delta is.

Even with that higher percentage, we should hit the 50% of eligible people with at least a first dose around May 15 or May 31 if you're counting the whole population.
