The devil is in the details I think. They aren’t ending the airport testing requirements, the vaccine to fly in Canada requirement or the federal worker vaccination requirements; they have been “suspended” or “paused”

Give it until the fall and I’d bet the suspensions will expire and they new definition of fully vaccination will be in play. Then saying that summer is time for people to think about how they will be better prepared for fall individually and collectively is enough foreshadowing of what’s down the line

It's a change that essentially mandates vaccination in perpetuity on whatever schedule the government decides on in order to keep access to things like employment and domestic travel. You'll need to be "up to date" on covid vaccinations and not simply fully vaccinated, so if they decide that its shots twice a year (regardless of efficacy), then you'd better be in line so you can get on a plane or go to your federally regulated job.

They've expressed unhappiness with the number of people who have gotten boosters, changing the definition is going to be stick they use to drive that number

That doesn’t sound true considering they have announced they dropped/ are dropping vaccine requirements for domestic travel.

They're not dropping it. It's only paused for the summer. They're being intentionally vague about it because at some point, the definition is changing to what Tam has been saying for months. They have to work with the provinces with it so hopefully the provinces just tell them to fuck off.

Definition of "fully vaxxed" may stay fluid based on situation that may change in the fall/winter. And it may have more impact to foreigners than Canadians. After all, they have removed vax mandate on domestic travels so definition of fully vaxxed doesn't matter.

Gov't was very clear that they are 'paused', they will likely return, and anyone who wants to retain their freedom of movement will have to take 3rd or 4th doses accordingly. Gov't already redefining 'fully vaxxed':

Hopefully there's a lot more pushback when they try and bring mandates back. I know of a few 2-dosers who refuse to get a 3rd, I'm guessing this group is actually pretty big given the low uptake of boosters.

Because the vaccines are not specific for the current variant, they are not as effective, combined with the rapid drop in antibodies with Covid in general. Each boost will give about 6 months of enhanced protection over the previous.

We'll have better vaccines at some point.

Cause it does work significantly better than no booster.

I would say that if you have 2 doses plus the infection, you probably don't need a boost for a year-ish

I think though that they should mix it up with the boosters. Like mRNA should always be the first vaccine, and then some series of traditional or whole virus boosters. Getting 4 doses of Pfizer is not as effective as a combo.

Tough to say. I was listening to a Peter Attia interview, and I believe he said there are 90 or so covid vaccines undergoing trial globally that he is aware of.

But without emergency use status, these would be years normally.
