My kid rides the bus with one named Stacey. Stacey gets dropped off at the bus stop by her mom every day. I am singing that song constantly.

Will post my wife’s experience with the covid vaccines, as mentioned she’s eligible for 2b.

Apparently Safeway is taking names for any year, called our usual Safeway pharmacy and they aren’t doing vaccines but she got a list of Safeway’s that are. She called a couple, managed to get through on one, and has her name on the list for a shot.

Not born prior to 1973 lol.

    What a fucking mess haha.

I'm anticipating that the "mess" will be somewhat reduced in 3-6 weeks. I'm happy that so many people are going out of their way to get on various lists. Right now we are still supply constrained.

Yup. Like I said, my buddy would not be on list, and barely got on 1973 list today but got the jab on Sunday.

Doesn't matter. As long as doses go to arms without waste, we are collectively doing better.

Yes I focus on this. Jabs/day is the most important metric. Prioritization is a red herring.

Every shot given is a plus in my books yes. One less person ahead of me, should get mine by September October with any luck.

It's a mess because of 2 primary factors.

First, the supply chain is unpredictable and not aligning with forecasts. AHS and pharmacies are booking people based on the federal government forecasts, which have been pretty wrong. When deliveries dip below forecasts, appointments gets cancelled. When deliveries exceed forecasts and bookings, you have a potential of wastage so you have the gong show of the second point. Also with everyone pushing for get all the supply used up, there can't be a buffer to dampen the effects of supply chain issues. Anyone responsible for having doses in freezers to maintain a buffer is political suicide right now.

Second, the whole list situation is fucked because everyone wants to be fair, so you have this ridiculous priority list of who you need to call first (who may or may not be available) that you have to contact and get on site within 12 or so hours before expiry. It's a time consuming process. Some sites maintain 2B only lists, some sites open it for everyone, age or phase be damned just to get jabs in arms.

None of the solutions I can think of would work unless people just STFU. Can't win. Building a buffer, backlash. Only open scheduling when deliveries are made, people whine about short term bookings. Have a completely open wastage list, not fair to front line workers backlash. There isn't a silver bullet solution while we're supply and delivery constrained, unless people just chill the fuck out.

That's part of it. I mean if I was in charge and there was no social media, as soon as I announce that I build a small inventory buffer, introduce a global sign up portal where you only have a choice of city and not site to get your shot, while opening up the waste list to everyone, Rachel Notley would hold a press conference calling my ass out within the hour because it's unfair to 12 people.

Sometime you can judge how good an idea is (at least when it comes to public policy), by who gets mad. If Notley is against it, it must be good. The last thing you want is a public policy that Notley thinks is good. That's at least an indication you want to go back and review it some more.

They should just add mental health diagnosis to the 2b list, that would about round up all the Notley voters.

Don't forget the reliance on the pharmacies for distributing way more doses than they were prepared for. The fact there isn't a global booking system is causing everyone a ton of grief and is going to bite us in the ass once we get further along and people are all on multiple lists.

I'm actually not sure why there isn't a global sign up list. Either logistics of integrating various drug store booking systems, or they want people to have a choice where to go and what vaccine to get (the list of what pharmacy carries which vaccine is actually published if you want to go shopping to avoid AZ). Too much complexity IMO, a global booking system that assigns you where to go based on availability solves a lot of headaches with a downside for people without cars.

As for pharmacies jabbing way more than they were prepared for, that's covered in point 1, unpredictable supply chain and the goal of jabbing every dose we get ASA fucking P.
