Well it's outsourcing, not laying off. The same people will probably keep working at their same jobs, probably for less.

And none are professionals that needed to man the ICUs. May indirectly supports it.
again, front line staff are being let go - instead of being hired.

outsourcing does not mean 1:1 replacement, and also means much quicker layoffs when its necessary (like right now)

Gave up. Will try again when the frenzy subsides, no point beating a pretty dead horse. As long as we are holding the pattern in the current way of life, there is little to no risk. The whole point is really getting back to what we had and it's not like that's gonna magically happens in a month or 2 anyway.

And only 1/2 of my parents qualify for this round. So one having it done early changes nothing. If they don't change to a more flexible platform than Sharepoint, I don't see how phase 2 booking will be any smoother as 2x more people piling into it.

Calgary Police are pleading for idiots to stop calling 911 to request a vaccine booking.

I wish we could find out who at AHS is responsible for these things. Not just "AHS".

    Name names, dammit.

C19 has destroyed our healthcare system so much that:

    - walk in clinics are ghost towns I wonder if phone appointments have anything to do with this?
    - ALS is closing locations in the city or reducing hours - getting a blood test now takes a month How long it takes to get a test always depends on urgency. What used to be immediate is still immediate. What took a month in 2019 still takes a month. Side note: ALS reduced the amount of tests they allowed during the pandemic, to the frustration of doctors.
    - medical services buildings are also ghost towns That may have been the case in summer 2020, but not now. Foothills hepatology and GI clinics are busy, hard to find patient parking.
    - diagnostic imaging services (private) are shutting down due to lack of patients, AHS diagnostics is doing 24-48 hour response time for non urgent matters, that use to take weeks.
    - emerg wait times are down from 3 hours to 30 minutes really? https://www.albertahealthservices.ca...waittimes.aspx
I get bloodwork done every 12 weeks and see a specialist at foothills every few months, and aside from ALS, the level of health care has not changed. The people who need help get help. This probably wouldn't be the case if the virus was allowed to go wild and overrun things.

Same; I can describe the preC19 vs postC19 and the level of care I have received and it has declined in some ways (like labs, due to cut backs and closures) and increased in other ways as the system is clearly idling.

According to UCP - the virus IS "overrunning" things, thats WHY we are being crippled as a society.

All of this is a great reason why they are laying off 11,000 public workers - including front line workers - in the middle of a 'pandemic'.

Who are you trying to convince with the dumb shit that you say? Someone on this forum that has not already made up their mind and thinks your very sensible hot takes must be some hidden truth? Or are you upset that there is no other outlet for waving your cane at the world, so getting it off of your chest here (repeated ad nauseum) makes you feel better.
Will do, I'll just follow the herd into the slaughter house.

Try this CSS mod to get past the postal code issue:

    https://twitter.com/korymath/status/1364644073345327107

Postal code check is timing out and submit button remains disabled, but you can manually reenable and move on.

When tech isn't the core business, IT is always assigned to a VP that drew the short straw.

My guess is they are being cheap and don't want to pay the bottomless price of handling the surge.
Which is hilarious if they are already willing to pay the bottomless pit price of bureaucracy

    - neurology and cardiovascular operations had to be reduced to emergency only to shift staff to the ICU
    - thousands of elective surgeries had to be postponed in November and December due to shortage of necessary beds and lack of staff as resources had to be reallocated
Except that it wasn't because they had to be reprioritized. It was because "ZOMG!! Covid is so dangerous we can't have people come to clinics and hospitals risking more spread of the virus, make them stay home and die"

Engaging in any kind of conversation with kert means you lose

Just like The Game from years ago. The first rule of The Game, is you cannot win, only lose.

I'm not on the conspiracy train, and feel the vaccines are likely pretty safe. Just have to point that out around here before saying anything. But I do find the mental gymastics of some people to be funny. The same people that were going full Karen early on "COVID IS KILLING GRANDMA, STAY HOME AND LOCKDOWN NO MATTER WHAT, OLD PEOPLE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DIE" Are the same people who are now looking at the vaccine roll out and when a few old people die due to cytokine storm or whatever from the vaccine, are now saying "Oh that is perfectly normal, they were old and could have died at any time anyway."
Those numbers are vastly different........What a stretch

This is also, grossly untrue. Thousands of health care staff were redeployed from their regular units, to ICU or COVID units. The healthcare worker groups were full of posts and questions from people who were being sent to work in units outside their specialty, on different sites, some from non acute to ICU. Just because it wasn't reported directly to you, doesn't mean it wasn't happening. Because it was.
