That one will have to wait. The cookbox, manifold, and hood are good but everything else is rotten unfortunately. So I’ll be on the lookout for a frame.

I finally got tired of replacing sh*tty bbq's on every 2nd year or so. So I decided Cycosis' rabbit hole was a valid one

New to me (2002 era?) Genesis gold.

Got digging into the heavy layers of "seasoning" on everything:

Yeah the flavor bars and grille is stainless. I thought they felt heavy, but I was still expecting cast iron not stainless. Score.

Gotta do an ignitor and, figure out why the front doors don't line up, Probably need to do some minor painting this summer at some point.

So cool!! How the eff did you get those stainless grills to look anything like that?!? Mine have been completely black since the first week I got it and I bet that was 15 years ago!

See the purple bottle of super clean? It did the heavy lifting then it was easy off BBQ cleaner and some great value knockoff 3m scuff pads.

Fuck. I have a gallon of concentrated Super Clean that I don't think I've started to use yet, because I still have some lingering Simple Green. I'm doing things wrong.

Those Genesis Gold units are fantastic! My mother in law has one, and I greatly prefer cooking on it compared to my newer Weber Summit. Heavier stainless grills, virtually zero hot spots, starts first time. Feel like the Weber quality dropped a lot since then.

Finished my second one. Now to decide which to keep and which to sell. Leaning to keeping the green one and selling the Black propane one.

    When I got it:

    Inside cleaned up:

    Manifold cleaned up:

    And now, here she is!

Yeah there's apparently a big difference in quality between made in USA vs made in USA from globally sourced components. Partly why I went looking for much older models.

    Less shiny once seasoned.

OMFG this works so much better than any bbq I've ever owned. Easily hits 600deg with the 3 burners at 3/4, very nice!

If anyone wants a Weber project, I've got a Weber gas that has been cut from the cart so it's just the "head". It's currently sitting in a built in spot outside but I want to get a proper built in head. ONce I get the new one, it's free to whoever wants to pick it up and haul it away. Seems to work fine.
