I feel dirty for wanting an explorer. I don't know how ya'll deal with the bullshit purchase methods.. looks like MSRP is C$9K, but they are posted on chrono24 for $15k? the fuck?
Inventory is definitely getting better now so I would pop into an AD and see what they can do, the BS method sucks no doubt but the wait is way better now. I must love BS purchase methods because we went to see about getting a Sequoia and its an easy 1-2 year wait lol

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

Got the call for a sky dweller. Was a bit confused and turned it down... from what I recall it wasn't a model I had on my list.

Afterwards, looking at the resale of most sky dwellers I should have definitely picked it up. Woops.

I got called last week for a no date sub. Also turned it down as I figured I would wait for something else. Maybe the supply is catching up to demand.

sky dweller could be selling under list on the secondary market depending on the dial/bracelet combination if I recall correctly.

I checked chrono 24 and a quick scan of market place and they are listed in the 30k range. I didnt even ask what color the sky dweller was as it wasn't a model I really wanted.. but retail has them starting at 20k. Seems like a quick flip based off those numbers.

I'll be more prepared next time hah.

I dont know anything about flipping rolexes, but one would think trying to sell a watch for 30k would probably take a good amount of time, or am I wrong?

you are right, except for some reason, everyone seems to think these are the new investment vehicles to store cash. GUys are buying watches brand new from the dealer for 10k, selling them the next day to pro flippers for 20k, and those guys are listing them for 23k. What could go wrong?

All while sticking their heads in the sand that most models are down 20-50%+ since the peak. I wouldn't want to be stuck with a traditionally not-hot model like the Skydweller, unless it was something I genuinely liked.

I got offered a sea dweller from an AD at MSRP of course and I passed cause it wasn't high up on my list, but expect to lose 2-3k on those immediately after purchase. I was able to get my YM on oysterflex at msrp from an AD and I see them for more or less msrp in the second market now. So things have definitely changed. But some pieces are still big bucks, plus the Batman/Batgirl is going 10K or so over msrp. Pepsi is around 15-18K over msrp and the Daytona steel being the craziest around 25-30K over msrp.

Why would you not consider something like a Rolex an asset?

Stuff like that feels more like a gratuitous expense to me.

The idea of buying an accessory with the intention of selling it later is hilarious to me.

Kindof like those people who sell their clothes after wearing them.

I’ll never sell mine. It was a gift. It’ll get handed down.

Different strokes I guess... I think most watch guys playing in this sandbox would look at it as a 'nice place to park some excess money', rather than gratuitous expense... But I can see how it would feel like that to some.

I guess I'm just looking at "assets" as something that is a relatively liquid, and reasonable store of value, and separating that from someone's ownership intention, whether that's a quick flip or generational hold.

The way I look at it, not all watches are assets, but Rolexes are.
