Well you’re comparing what’s essentially a desktop which has none of the issues a laptop would have to deal with. Heat generation, heat dissipation, power consumption, throttling to name a few.
    Wut?

    I have something like this - https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00123976

Hard no on Inspiron. I'm a Dell fanboy. Have been buying Dell for 3 different companies for over 20 years. For Laptops, the Latitude line is solid. The Inspiron line is hot garbage.
There's a reason Telus used to give away Inspirons with internet contracts.
Can confirm - wasted 1k on hot garbage inspiron. Will probably never buy dell again

No but you can run it in a VM using Parallels.
    Not that Parallels is free.

I need a laptop for a 12 year old to do homework on.

Most of his homework is on Google Classroom - does not need to be touch screen. Just want it to be (in stock) easy to use, compact and rather sturdy because he's an irresponsible fucker

TIL NUCs are also laptops. Who was the marketing idiot that greenlit that one?

I mean, if you're getting a macbook, you're paying at least $1300 for the cheapest macbook air, more for a pro, plus $130 for a parallels license, plus a windows license.

    It’s a colossally dumb suggestion.

Gone are the days of dual booting with an $80 windows oe license. Shame really.

Yes it’s much better to just buy an intel laptop to use excel on Windows.

My gripe was my inspiron dell literally couldnt handle a teams call. It was that bad.

For the same price this intel can handle teams, google chrome with a bunch of tabs, and a bunch of excel models open all at once.

Thats what I expected out of a $1000 dollar laptop... and Dell was a dumpster fire when I tried to use it for that.

This. Teams and in some ways Google Meet are terribly inefficient. Had a Core M laptop for the kids which couldn't run teams or G-Meet at all without cutting out. Zoom was perfectly fine on it.

It's shocking how much CPU power you need to run those 2 beasts efficiently, especially on calls with 20+ people with cameras on. Zoom runs on every piece of shit out there but people don't like Zoom as much.

Anyone looking in the mid/upper tier should consider the Legion 5i Pro series. Prices aren't eye-watering for solid hardware and quality display. I'm also a sucker for a numpad.

No doubt in my mind teams is awful in terms of efficiency. Still, dell is dead to me. My little NUC just hums along running it (and occasionally the fans really gotta kick in too) but at least there are no slowdowns
