Default Beyonds lessons from 2020 - Share one thing you learned this year

Little year-in-review idea for us. Post one (short) thing you learned this year, and if possible try to keep it mostly positive. Could be a neat time-capsule of our thoughts right before 2021 starts.

For me, the biggest lesson is one I'm still working on. Just how much my time is the most valuable currency for my family.

Work on things you can affect and not worry about things out of your hands.

My hand washing routine has definitely changed - from slapping soap on rubbing hands together a bit, running under water and calling it good before to an actual routine - feel a lot more grown-up reflecting on this...

The only threads worth reading are the MEGA threads. and post new thread?

Serious answer: I learned that although committing to something may take a long time, and a lot of work, it can pay huge dividends when the time is right. Also, life is neither a highway, nor a Gaussian Distribution.

    Communication.

It's always been important but it's changed pretty drastically this year, so being able to communicate effectively in different ways has been more important this year.

Clearly I still need to work on this because my sarcasm on here doesn't always come across properly.

We didn’t need a coronavirus sub forum.

Owning a fast car isn’t necessarily enjoyable.

I'll never look at a 10 pin bowling ball the same way again.

Yes and no for me here. While I've enjoyed ripping around in a Miata through the summer, getting back in the E53 felt like it gained 100hp and was a blast.

    Ah beat me to it.

Every Mega thread probably has ExtraSlow as the OP.

You may think you know about cancer and what it entails, but its like anything else and there is far more to it than one can know or imagine.

Yes I get that, my 335D probably is faster than my Mini but the Corvette ownership experience just wasn’t all that special. It’s good to have a spread of vehicles to drive though, I want to get my Crown Vic back going for some snow and ice racing fun if it happens to remind me how much nicer the 335D is to daily, and the Mini reminds me how much more involving and emotional a drive can be than a white sedan on top of it.

I don't ever want to go back to spending 50hr/week (+commute) in an office. I am planning on going back, but it will be a completely different operating model.

I think this is something that will affect and impact a lot of people.

I know myself that even though my pet isn't a kid.. Being at home and spending more time with my dog and my dog having me home more often has definitely change the dynamic in my house a lot.

I don't forsee myself being in the office for more than 1 or 2 days tops a week if we go back.

That even if I could afford it, I don't want to live in Aspen. You fucks would never let me live it down!

Was talking to my boss about that a while back. He said that if he gets challenged, he can not make a case for us to keep our DT office space that the team transitioned so seamlessly to WFH that there were literally zero hiccups. Plus side to that for me is, he would have a hard time telling me I can't work on vacation in Vegas or really any place with an internet connection. I guess that goes both ways though lol
