I mean... Not to be unfeeling but isn't that true? I was absolutely shocked when I read it was murder 1, I don't understand how it meets that threshold. As was said earlier, everyone deserves a robust defense. The death is very unfortunate but I would be surprised if this meets the murder threshold (not knowing all of the facts).
I believe if there a crime is committed and there is a death of an officer than that is the automatic charge. I've read (not entirely sure the truth behind it) is that the officer died from being hit by on coming traffic. In that case i can see it being manslaughter at most.

Like Tiktok said, its an automatic 1st degree charge if an officer is killed but we all know they wont get convicted of that especially with Der on their side. If their records are pretty clean its gonna be a couple years tops inside an actual cell

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

It'll be plead down to manslaughter. Especially if the cam has the kids face in it.

these are not clean kids - these are career criminals already at the ripe old age of 17, as mentioned previous. Numerous warrants, FTAs, etc,

Im sure defense will argue the 1st degree murder charge is not warranted as the driver did not for eg. aim his vehicle at a member to kill them, but instead tried to get away and accidentally caused the death.

    3-5 years max.

CPS shut down the roadway area of the incident today for an hour and had a bunch of guys out searching for something in the snow. Have to wonder what they were looking for - maybe the camera footage caught them disposing of a weapon or something.

Killing a cop results in manslaughter plea.

How every cop in the city doesn’t walk off the job tomorrow is beyond me.

Same shit as what goes on in the states these days.

    Honestly, I don't get it.
If the law doesn't actually protect them anymore than a civilian, why put your neck out on the line?

Our legal system is somewhere between a farce, at best, and intentionally broken.

You can thank potlucks activist prosecution and judiciary for that.

Usually it's because you have self image problem, and carrying a gun and a badge props that up.

The bad rap with Calgary Police is the lack of accountability when one of them breaks the law or does whatever I cop shouldn't be doing. Sure there are good cops but the cop culture kind overshadows the few good cops there are.
