Yes, many thousands of people, including elected officials, went on legal Christmas Vacations this year as they always do.

If it wasn’t for the newborn I would have 100% booked a 1 way flight to Scottsdale as soon as our office was shut down. Sue me.
But nobody cares what you do and your job doesn't depend on good PR.

^Basically. I see your point for sure but comparing elected officials with us common folks is simply not the same thing. They need to be held at a higher standard as they are representatives of the community so when they preach something and themselves go against it, it's very much an issue.

If you come across a stray dog and nobody is around to see, do you still kick it? Same moral compass, different application. Politicians should feel shame.

I question someones mental state if they are okay with kicking dogs in the first place. Animal abusers have a special place in hell next to pedophiles.

Sorry who got kicked when no one was looking?

People pretend like they are victims of these guys going on vacation. That might be the most Canadian thing I have heard of in weeks.

Great article, The herald found a gynaecologist to wag the finger at Kenney. “News”.

“a beach vacation is “the further thing” from a health-care worker’s mind currently“ - Anyone wana over under on how many alberts doctors still went in vacation this Christmas? Nurses?

In the same manner as travel advisories through the mountains in the winter, you do so at your own peril, but if you are properly prepared you should manage OK. This is no different - but for the AVERAGE person - NOT our 'leaders'.

The clowns who went as far as bragging about it on SM, should be shit kicked.

LOL. The outrage on this is hilarious. Our airlines are flying to many sunny destinations. If the average Joe can travel all they want then so can our politicians.

Not to point out the obvious but we are allowing anyone to fly anywhere they want as long as they quarantine upon return. If we are upset at those traveling then shouldn't we remove traveling as an option?

Thats fair. With that said a lot of people posting here have said in other threads that people should be treated equally and we should have one set of rules for everyone. I guess they didn't really mean that and just want to cherry pick their arguments to suit whatever they want.

You're perfectly welcome to call the CBC on your plumber friend that posted from Mexico on his IG. Not sure if you would get any traction, though.

The problem if you are a politician is that your behavior is newsworthy regardless of the rules. There is a big difference between what you CAN do, and what you SHOULD do. As they have found out.

To add onto this, the politicians are the people touting to stay home, avoid travel, etc and are going against their own words

I wonder how many people don’t travel internationally due to the 2 week isolation, not because of moral obligations. Highway from Calgary - Salmon Arm was packed this August with campers and RVs. Travelling internationally is likely safer and won’t spread a possible case due to self-isolation. Interprovincial travel however could be far riskier as you are out in the open and interacting with unknown number of people.

The optics of politicians travelling is another matter and opinions will vary depending on how restrictions affected you. Small business owner who lost their livelihood would probably be furious. Public service employee or anyone who kept their job and life was relatively unaffected would probably be less upset.
