Decent uncapped rural internet?

We're looking at moving, likely to a small town for more space but i would love a rural property, but for my work, reliable and relatively fast internet is critical.


Any better options out there recently? i know i found some old threads for telus lte but it was pretty restrictive on usage.

We use wi fibre at a rural property to the SE. slow as balls (6/6 D/U) but it’s unlimited. Good enough for a single stream or general browsing.

Maybe see if them or a similar provider is available where you are?

I've had good business internet service with CCI Wireless in Sundre and Caroline area, they are also based in Calgary

yeah that's the one i saw previously, but it is 3 years old, hoping maybe things have changed since then.

No such thing. Rural internet sucks and has so many variables to it.

Right now Starlink or whatever its called is the best but has crazy costs and not everyone can have it.

yeah i would be willing to put this off if there was any sort of timeline as to when it'd be mainstream, but i doubt that'd be short term.

Someone mentioned that TELUS had a better mobile hotspot plan these days - but it used to be ROGERS with uncapped data in their (now SUPER) HEAVY use rockethub plan.

120$ for 50GB a month and then 20$ per 10GB. If you are streaming 4K content, expect to have a 300$ a month bill - but their speeds are dependent on your zone as well. Ie you might have to mount the mobile receiver in the attic perhaps, and then LAN cable it down to your router/wifi.

Consider a wireless shot through xplorenet or starlink.
You'll need GPS coordinates when you inquire so have that handy

Starlink is still in very limited beta. I’ve had myself on the list since it first started with an ideal rural location for it and I haven’t gotten a call.

My point being, it might as well not exist right now that’s a future thing to hope for.

that's been my experience as well, i signed up with my brother's rural property 2/3 the way to drumheller, not a peep about it, that's why i am not even considering it an option right now.

My parents have xplorenet at their place outside Golden, and its mediocre at best. Would not recommend unless there are no other options.
