However, Enbridge:

“We have no intention of shutting down pipelines based on these unspecified allegations (from the state),” the company said in an emailed statement. “We will not shut-in Line 5 unless ordered by a court or our regulator the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, which we view as highly unlikely.”

I can definitely see the americans courts ordering a shut down - and it will happen during peak travel season. Ooops.

Probably very tight supply/demand spread leading to price spikes and shortages.

Sucks for Envridge, maybe some canadian integrateds who supplied Ontario through the line, but overall next to no effect to Alberta.

Biden wanting a 2035 carbon free energy sector is a lofty goal. If he gets two terms its definitely doable, but then again most things are doable in two terms - even a wall.

What are the logistical challenges and cost? Pretty high, but it would mean that many more pipelines will become endangered. As to how severely this will affect Alberta is anyones guess.

The 1.9T package that they are working on includes $1400 checks. Cutoff for eligibility is I think $75k per year, and it’s higher if you are married and/or have kids just like the previous checks.

They tried to bring republicans on board but they maxed out at 650B package with targeted checks and dems said no so they are going it alone. Should be possible to pass the big one but it’s very tight.

A family of 5 that makes 100k could in theory get 7 grand even if they didn’t lose their jobs throughout the entire pandemic. Kinda nuts honestly
