Spot next to us was empty all weekend. Maybe because of this, or maybe because people are generally assholes who won't cancel a restaurant reservation, let alone a camp site.

It was the weirdest thing though. All the massive sites for 40 foot trailers, and Class A types were filled with Subarus and tents, and the smallest sites meant for tents and tent trailers had 30'ers on them.

I would be completely forgoing the rest of camping season if it weren't for our dog.

Last year was like that too. Fully booked, but more than half the campsites were empty.

They're supposed to, who knows if they really do. There's no real way to tell unless someone from Parks Alberta is driving around marking the empty spots and then cancelling the reservations.

I think they rarely cancel the reservation for no-shows even though they are supposed to. Maybe at the few campgrounds that had a mandatory check-in procedure like Little Bow or Crimson Lake.

They do, but its at 2:00 pm the next day. So whos going to bank on going out on a saturday and stumble into having a site for a standard weekend?

I believe it's 2PM the next day that if you haven't checked in for your day prior then they cancel your reservation....it's outlined somewhere but vaguely recall reading about it earlier this year

He is CKC registered , he's also more dog than our friends/family can handle, so we can't just go enjoy a weekend in a nice hotel because we have no one to watch him.

He's tethered us down more than our kid.

Not that it matters. If someone with a weekend reservation doesn't show up Friday night, it's not like many people are going to take the spot.

We were at Lundbreck this weekend and the Parks staff were going around doing checks periodically. Not sure exactly what they were checking though. We weren't sure where to drop off the park copy of the permit and when we asked them, they just told us to toss it.

Parks panicked last week cause their site kept crashing, so they implemented a 'queue-it', but said queue gives ~30 minutes per person before it kicks you out (10 minutes to get in, 20 to work in it). Suspect they have a dismally small number of people allowed in at a time. Worse, this queue is for all parks reservation systems. You want to look at what sites are available in 100 days? have to queue. Print your reservation? Queue. Cancel reservation cause the weather is shit? queue..

I printed my may long reservation last night at 11:30. Waited under 1min, easy peasy

Less than 1 minute wait right now, and a small number of sites available for the weekend if you don't mind a bit of a drive. Mid-day is the wrong move I guess.
