Is there official word on this, or did the pits just disappear one day?
Giving the benefit of doubt to AB Parks, I want to say they were either stolen, or maybe getting repaired/upgraded with spark arrestors or something.

I heard Jason Kenney sold them to be melted down to make steel logs for @Buster ‘s back yard.

I mean at Point, sure. But they stopped bringing in firewood last year to everywhere and people started cutting down trees at other locations (Forks..). If you 'need' a fire, maybe dont backcountry camp in a provincial park? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Campfires and backcountry camping never went together in my mind anyway, and I've done my share. Not sure if this will help or hinder any conservation goals though. Humans will do what they will do, and going against that natural tendency is rarely successful.

I'm exploring the idea of skipping all of that and figuring out a way to fill a pit with crude oil and light it on fire. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'm always stunned when I revisit a campsite and the firepits have been replaced.
Heading to Paddys Flat tomorrow for my maiden voyage test run in my winnie, glad I decided to work Monday and take this Friday off, weather looks better than May long

It's called 752 West RV-ATV Park. My mom/brother have a large spot there for two months.

You will not find a backcountry campsite in kananaskis with "firepit" as a feature you can select it but all of them dont have it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I was reading on the backcountry camping fb group and the people camping there on Wednesday showed pictures of AB parks removing the firepits at point. I believe the history of it was that last year they had firepits at all campsites and then because of covid they removed them all and put in communal firepits now this year they have removed the communal firepits as well.
I didn't find any AB parks official communication about the firepits.
Looks like a pretty nice area...is it usually quite busy? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Long weekend was pretty crazy. Trails were also busy. This is our first time at this site so not sure if it's always busy or what. But because Outwest is literally right beside it, I expect the area to be quite busy all the time with ATV'ers. Though it seemed everyone respected the rules pretty well on the long weekend. This area is geared straight towards off-roaders.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Sani-dump on site which was awesome.... no fucking around at home and no line up to use it. Water/power which also came in handy.... did lots of air frying with the Ninja!

Different campsites have different times. National parks are at 11am.
Many places you can ask for a late checkout.
Spent the weekend in Waiparous. Got a chance to use my make-shift awning for the first time.

Has anyone camped at Tunnel Mountain before?
I have a weekend booked there in September and I'm totally unsure if I need a park pass or not. I've been told that the booking lets me into the park and go to the campground, but also told that I need to have a park pass.
