the whole booking system is built for cunts.

A friend of a friend has used Outdoorsy for an annual campout. He has nothing but good to say about it. Last year we got to the campground fairly early for August long weekend (11am), and the trailer was already there and setup for them.
    That's pretty cool!

We do usually go to off-grid and unserviced locations though, so would probably end up towing it somewhere ourselves - most of these listed on RVezy and OD seem to have like full service fees such as septic and water tank emptying and all camping chairs built into the cost...can you negotiate these off if you're not going to use them?

Technically allowed, however they have the right to cancel you outright for 'sliding' or 'overbooking'. By no means is this a new idea and they definitely cracked down on it in BC so wouldnt be surprised if they do the same here soon.

it's also a cunt move as you take up a potential spot for the two weeks up to it
Yea, its a cunt move for sure.

I only do a day ahead and dont cancel. Alberta Parks still gets paid.

Yes, people do this with good success, but it's against the terms and conditions of the website, and in theory they could cancel your whole booking if they somehow "caught' you. I have never heard of that happening. Also a dick move, but most people are dicks, so that's not a big deterrent usually.

Fair enough, I’m not trying to be a cunt but when the game is inherently cuntish, if you can’t beat them, join em.

Realistically though I would cancel the front 10 days well in advance (say 60 days before) so there would be plenty of time to fill that especially at a high demand spot.

BC figured out how to fix it a few years back, essentially you're screwed if you tried to overbook to catch long weekends https://bcparks.ca/reserve/discover-camping-faqs.html

Could still trick the system a bit by holding it and then cancelling and rebooking the next morning, but a lot more risk involved..

    Anyone used RVEzy or Outdoorsy?

We want to get some camping in this year, but I'm not sure we'll be in the position to buy our own trailer until next year...unless the borders and flights all open up and the panic buyers fire sale all the RVs they bought LOL
Were going to try a glamping trip this year and have been on outdoorsy lots and it looks pretty legit.

I had no idea camping was such a shady industry when it comes to booking lol

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

if you want glamping, you could check out the "comfort camping" options from Aberta parks or the "Otentiks" from parks Canada.

Get in while it lasts. They've been cutting comfort camping from the budgets since 2019.

We did that 3 years ago at dinosaur provincial park and it was an awesome experience. Those tents are huge and equipped with a legit queen bed, kids beds, fridge and power. It wasnt cheap though, i think we paid almost $150/night and it was either there or the first night we stayed in drumheller where me and the wife got bit by bed bugs. I will never forget how itchy those bites are, i was literally bleeding but i couldnt stop scratching

Im sure its been mentioned in here but Dinosaur provincial park is a pretty sweet place, they have the hoodoo things you can hike around and i guess theres scorpions and rattlesnakes there, we saw the warning signs.

If you go to dinosaur, do the guided hikes. They go places the public cannot, and are amazing.

Seen that. Confirmed that group camping is closed unless social gathering restrictions are eased by the province.

I never knew that this was a thing, I didn’t have any luck last year getting a good spot during the summer. Maybe I may try things differently this year.

And as always, my tips for reserving campsites:
    1) choose places in further zones (south zone is good)
    2) choose places further away in that zone.

Complaining that Elkwood is hard to book for a long weekend is basically my #1 trigger for camping.
