    Default 2021 Camping MEGA THREAD

time to start dreaming of summer camping trips. Federal, BC and Alberta campgrounds are not yet open for reservations and have not released reservation dates.

I would love to have a big BC trip or even getting down to Idaho, but there may be issues with that obviously. Last year we ended up at Chinook a few times, and enjoyed that.

What's on your radar for 2021 trips?

Really liked Chinook last year so probably do a lot more of that especially if we can get lake side. Be nice to get over to Fernie if possible. We camped nearly every weekend from May long last year till Aug long, so cant foresee us getting that many in this year, but couldnt complain if it happened!

Took a look at Beaver Mines Lake as well, if you can get the lake side sites there, man alive what a place!

Likewise we've been fantasizing about a big BC trip; even as far as Vancouver Island but that will depend on public health guidance. We too enjoyed our trip down to Chinook, and also really had fun at Little Elbow and will likely try to repeat that.

Would also love to do some more ambitious backcountry with our 4y/o who loves backpacking. Maybe elbow lake to tombstone.

I’d like to go get lost in the woods with a truck and a tent this somewhere, far from every other human being aside from a couple choice friends.

I don’t have any more specifics or planning in mind.

Not with the truck, but I recommend canoe trips for ultimate escape from people.

Not enough beer in a canoe.

really hard to actually get away from people anywhere that's vehicle accessible. I did a little exploring out past Racehorse creek last summer on a weekday, and even 40 minutes off the trunk road, every clearing had people in it. I think you'd need to be minimum 2 hours on gravel to find any solitude. Last year was extra busy, but probably the same this year.

I actually think the smaller unserviced paid campgrounds are quieter in many cases.

I don’t think my truck has the range to go 2 hours deep on gravel

An Aspen-ite would have beer heli-dropped at key locations.

We stayed there a weekend last year in early june, bonked some walleye, had fish tacos.. the campgrounds are in old wetlands so cant imagine how buggy they'd be later in the year. Was nice enough!

Cold. Not as close as it seems. Full of weeds.

Aside from that it’s a nice spot.

I have family with a place near gull lake, up near parkland beach, so I spend a lot of time around there. agree the water is colder than you think for such a shallow and weedy/muddy lake. Bugs only a little worse than most prairie lakes.

Would not seek out that place if I didn't have free camping/babysitting when I was there.

We have paddleboards. Although my wife was thinking of a lot at some resort for a month - sounds expensive. Im against it - I would rather if I was going to do that go for a week see how it is rather than make a 4 week commitment.

I’m fully supportive of this just for the sole fact that it would lead to less of you and your trailer on the roads than you going somewhere new every week.

My new car is far better for towing this trailer than my older car was.
