Default Father and son BMX tear down and restore.

Some of you may have seen this bike in my powdercoating thread, but I figured I'd make another one in here.

Started out as a 2000(i believe) Schwinn that I actually bought off a beyonder years ago(yes this was a long and drawn out project lol)

In the process of doing this, I moved houses and couldn't find what parts I had, they fell out of bags, it was really a disaster of trying to find everything and piece it back together.

Here it is in its old school glory and the tear down process

    Sandblasted

    Pre baked

    Baked

Finished up the BMX. First time I've torn an entire bike apart and re-did most everything. The only new parts are bearings, fork collars, brake cable and a new seat, everything else was sandblasted, powdercoated and painted.

I learned alot in this process, so I picked up another BMX project. I picked up a DK for $20( if anyone knows what that is) that will start soon.

Ya I used to race BMX in my early to mid teens, so I was super stoked my kid is getting more into BMX. He's already got a GT, so I might ride this one with him.

I picked up this DK bike to restore, its beat up but it could be worth alot cleaned up, not sure how ill do it yet or if ill be keeping it when its done.

The gyro was really old, I didn't want to get a new one, wanted the clean look on it. Still thinking of doing some custom schwinn decals for it, but unsure.

I had one of these. Was not a tear drop, I believe it was 83 or 84. Bought it for $180 from my cousin in the 90s, promptly ripped off the kuwahara decals, and proceeded to race it, then absolutely ruin it for a couple years before selling it for even less. fuck me.

I realized this bike isn't as old as I thought, maybe 20 years old?

Ya there are some worth alot of loot right now. I had the chrome kuwahara in 88 until I left it on my lawn for lunch in forest lawn, ya I never saw that again.

Didn't I buy this bike from you? I can't remember lol are you still riding park? I havent gone to a park in 25 years. That is the goal though, to get my kid comfortable enough to ride the park.

If you came from red deer the same day I posted 3 bikes for sale then yes, it was probably you. Do you have 20 Kuwaharas in your basement with a giant Kuwahara flag? lol
I sold the laserlite for over 2k. It was all original except for the Tuff 1's I put on. The original Arayas were trashed. The guy who bought it said it was going to be the center piece of his collection. I still miss just looking at it and knowing I owned it, hanging in the garage.

I don't ride park anymore, my wrists can't take it

No I bought this bike like 3.5 years ago wow, time flies. It turns out I did actually buy this bike from you @legendboy I miss this stuff so much now that im resto modding things. I dont know the value of any of this stuff nowadays though.

This DK bike i bought, im pretty sure it was a race bike, but its beat up and when I get it looking good again, im not sure it will be worth anything anyways.

Hes got a good lock, so far so good, he rides his other bike to school in riding months and always locks it up from what he tells me. We made sure to tell him if he doesn't, he'll be buying his own bike if it gets stolen.

@03ozwhip would you ever consider building up a bike like that again to sell?

Ya for sure. I'm starting another one right away. I just tore it apart and made a list of the parts I want to replace. If its for you, let me know what you're thinking @asp integra

No I pulled everything apart and painted the wheel and sprocket. I'm not so sure I want to go down that road with a sprocket.

I thought so from the one pic but double checking, I wonder how it will hold up long term? You took a mediocre bike and made such a sweet commuter/cruiser I really like it!
