I wish the Ukraine would member up with the EU as that would be my way in. If only for the ease of extended travel it would be great!

True, but I am thinking more about legally being in the EU longer termed at some point.

Just thinking that's why the EU doesn't want them to join. Because then you don't have a border around the entire EU anymore. Unless Russia joins as well. hahahahahah

With things like this, think of it as a second key for something you may or may not want to use in the future. More options and flexibility will always be in your interest, even if the benefits don't make sense today.

Is there any advantage to getting one after Brexit? I have dual citizenship, but haven't bothered to get a new British passport, mine expired when I was a kid.
Not sure, but since I am not travelling anytime soon, I'll have to do some research to see. Was seriously thinking of getting a job there, but it never materialized.

End of the day, it's about flexibility.

Going to UK, it's 3 lines, EU, Commonwealth and Japan/Korea, Rest of the chums.

Going to EU, it's 2 lines, EU and Rest of the chums.

So having an EU passport may allow you to clear customs much faster as a traveler. Plus a longer stay if you wish to so.

As for the shit show in HK, UK now allows BNO holders up to 5 years residency and allowed to work. As a BNO holder, that does open up some more interesting retirement options.

With the Canadian E-passport now in use, the EU travel becomes almost as fast - I wouldn't bank on an EU passport for travel unless you are flying there every couple of weeks for eg.

You would need to be travelling to Europe ALOT for the hassle of getting an EU passport to be worth it...

Value of citizenship is about being able to stay indefinitely and work, if those aren’t on your list I wouldn’t bother.

Now a US passport, that’s something I’m interested in. Sounds like Biden is going to give them away in cereal boxes too so maybe something to figure out.

Don't you have to use your Canadian Passport for leaving and entering canada as per their new regulations - So even if you did have an EU passport you would only be able to use it between countries. Ie fly into paris show canadian passport - fly to Madrid show EU passport - I cant even remember if I had to go through passport control again from France to Spain. I thought Canada made this change so you had to show your entry and exit stamp.

Not sure what is going on electronically but they definitely did not stamp my passport upon entry into the EU last year.

Not sure I even saw an agent.

Using multiple passports on a trip will raise red flags. Best to use one the whole trip - esp in conjunction with flights.

That I would be all over, but ever since 1776 they haven't liked us very much...unless we have L1-Bs tied to a major US company!

They are going to figure out a way to make you pay USA taxes eventually, even if you don't reside there, Fack nah.

I would argue that no matter how much taxes rise in the states, they will never manage to top the great socialist Canada. That and you can really structure your destiny by not residing in the shithole states.

Actually this topic has really motivated me to put the effort in on my US citizenship application process.

if you are looking to move to the states, then yes. I thought you meant getting USA passport and remaining a resident of Canada.

No that’s stupid. I am very interesting in keeping my options open to move to and work in the US.
